Also, could it be the Dallas PD didn't arrest her because it would make them a part of the investigation at that point and they wanted it to be independently done by an outside agency for the sake of propriety?

Bingo

But still would like to know why she shot her gun in the dark. Seems odd. Can’t see.

Daryl Washington said that Jean’s family has heard more than once that Gyger said she believed she was in her apartment being burglarized.
Didn’t the earliest reports say she opened the door and shot? I had a different impression earlier. Now it appears as though she actually stepped into the apt. Confusion and a breakdown of order surrounds this case.

Yes.
He opened the door and was shot in the doorway.
She opened the door and shot him just inside.
Now she entered the apartment and shot him inside.
We are just going to have to wait and see what her actual story was/is at trial.
It's entirely possible HER story has been consistent and it's the leaks that have not.

Shooting in the dark... it goes against everything she was trained to do. It's something a new, inexperienced gun owner would do. Not something a trained law enforcement officer should be doing. As evidenced by the fact that she only hit him once. His neighbors are lucky the second shot didn't hit one of them. It just doesn't make sense. If she was this irrational I would think she would be shooting people all the time.

Jean’s mother, Allison Jean, made a brief statement saying, “What we want… we are not satisfied that we have all the answers. And the number one answer that I want is, what happened? I’ve asked too many questions and I’ve been told that there are no answers yet.”

Allison Jean went on to say that she is looking forward to the “powers that be” conducting the investigation and getting all the answers to satisfy her that “they are doing what is in the best interest of getting justice for Botham.”

One of the articles posted above said he was shot in the chest and the abdomen.

Even if it was a heartbreaking mistake, too often a shoot-first mentality prevails in these incidents. An arrest was just. Time, and evidence, will tell if the manslaughter charge is the right one.

Why was Guyger working such a long shift? How could she not have realized she was in the wrong home? Why do these police shootings of black citizens keep happening across our nation?

One of the articles posted above said he was shot in the chest and the abdomen.

I know and another article said he was shot once in the chest.... and another article said he died from a single gunshot wound... and another article said she shot twice and hit him once.

I have no idea what is accurate at this point.
Excuse me while I pull my hair out.

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – Dallas police officer Amber Guyger, now charged with manslaughter in the death of a man in his own apartment, walked through an unlocked door she mistook for her own, a source told CBS 11 News reporter JD Miles.

Off-duty, but still in uniform, Gyger told investigators that she yelled at Botham Shem Jean to “show his hands” then drew her firearm and shot him, the source said.

The 26-year-old, shot in the dark, inside his apartment at the Southside Flats complex, died from gunshot wounds to the chest and abdomen.
At a press conference Monday morning, attorney Daryl Washington said that Jean’s family has heard more than once that Gyger said she believed she was in her apartment being burglarized.
'Show Your Hands': Dallas Officer Enters Unlocked Door, Allegedly Kills Man In His Apartment
How did she know if he showed his hands or not---it was dark.

If she did say "Show your hands" (which I don't even believe), she must have said it and then immediately shot him.

The Dallas County medical examiner's office said on Monday that he died of a gunshot wound to the chest. His death was ruled a homicide.

Lawyers for Jean's family had called for Guyger's arrest, saying the fact that she remained free for days after the shooting showed she was receiving favorable treatment. Shortly before her arrest was announced, they held a news conference in which they said their legal team had presented prosecutors with new evidence - a witness and video footage. They did not provide details.

Now... “a”gunshot wound to the chest.

VERIFIED
• Guyger, a four-year veteran of the force who was assigned to the Southeast Patrol Division, has been arrested on a manslaughter charge, a second-degree felony. A warrant for her arrest was issued over the weekend, and Guyger turned herself in at the Kaufman County Jail on Sunday evening.

While Guyger lives in Dallas, in Texas, you can turn yourself in at any county jail once an arrest warrant has been issued. Guyger was released from custody Sunday night after posting a $300,000 bond. Read more here about what constitutes a manslaughter charge in Texas.

• Jean's death was a homicide, according to the medical examiner. His cause of death was a gunshot wound to his chest and abdomen, the medical examiner ruled.

• The Texas Rangers investigated the case and coordinated with the Dallas County District Attorney's Office to obtain the arrest warrant for Guyger, said Lt. Lonny Haschel, spokesman for the Texas Department of Public Safety. Dallas police requested the Rangers to investigate the case, Haschel and Dallas police Chief Renee Hall said.

• The case is still under investigation – both by the Texas Rangers and the district attorney's office – and will be presented to a grand jury, which will decide whether to indict Guyger, Dallas County District Attorney Faith Johnson said Monday. A grand jury could decide to not indict Guyger at all, or indict her on a different charge than manslaughter.

Maybe he was shot in the chest and abdomen but the chest wound was fatal?
I don't know and it's so frustrating!

I don't believe it either, and this whole think is shady as you know what. I want to hear about her tox reports, the witnesses, etc. There better be maximum transparency in how this case is being handled....because the world is watching. Shady....

I mean come on. The whole story is so bizarre. Wtheck is wrong with this officer? Did she get properly screened when joining the force?! First the tasing incident, and now the life of an innocent man in his own home? Amateur opinion and speculation only.

You must have missed when the PO Mohamed Noor shot Justine Damond.

July 15, 2017
Between 11:40:15 p.m. and 11:40:29 p.m. A shot is fired. Harrity sees Noor with his right arm extended toward him. Harrity looks out his window and sees Damond. She has one hand near her abdomen and says, "I'm dying" or "I'm dead."

March 20, 2018
Noor is charged with third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter in Damond's death; he is no longer with the police department.paul walsh

More details are emerging about what officer Amber Guyger said happened during her fatal encounter with Botham Jean at his South Side Flats apartment last week.

Sources close to the investigation tell WFAA that Guyger told investigators the door to Jean's apartment was unlocked. She said she entered and saw someone she believed to be a burglar. She told investigators she yelled commands, but Jean moved toward her so she fired her weapon.
