LOL This was no real surprise. The case is really about the fact that she was IN HIS TRUNK, not about the whereabouts of HF and the defense conspiracy ideas. And since they knew this was coming, both sides undoubtedly planned their trial procedure with this situation - where we are now - as the anticipated reality to work with.

Respectfully, allowing the defense to question him could have helped the defense place more reasonable doubt out there than they've already done. He's not a good witness regardless. And unfortunately his testimony isn't going to bring her back or help find her.

ETA - Ah, later testimony that she later changed her mind and decided to head home. But the fact that she originally planned to stay over does fill a few gaps perhaps.
