TX TX - Elizabeth Barraza, 29, murdered setting up garage sale, Harris Co, Jan 2019 #6

A question I have is: Why didn't the killer do the surveillance during the day? Why drive around at 12:30am in the morning? Does the killer have a sleep problem?

If it was a planned murder and they only did surveillance the night before, did they really figure out they could drive off the end of Sandusky Drive to get back to Kuykendahl Road at 12:30 am in the morning? I think police would have checked to see if there was any surveillance cameras that captured the Nissan Frontier Pro-4X truck earlier than at nighttime so that maybe they get a better description or maybe can read the license plate?

According to what I read(and someone can correct me), but the garage sale signs were not put up until the night before the garage sale the next day. If it were me investigating this case, I would certainly want to follow Sergio in a re-creation about exactly how he and Elizabeth walked to put up the garage sale signs.

Maybe this murder was only planned the night before?
Possible! Alternately the murderer might have done reconnaissance of the neighborhood in a different vehicle previously... or, my guess is that they used satellite / street view to familiarize themselves, already knew someone who was familiar with Liz and the neighborhood, and then did the drive-by the night before just to make sure they had their bearings.

Maybe they came from far away, maybe they only had access to the truck for a certain window of time.. lots of unknowns :(

JMO - It seems to me that for some reason, it was important for the killer that his car was not seen during the day, and that the murder happened before daylight. We humans have a much better and sharper vision during the day. I wonder if there was anything peculiar about either the killer or his car that we all simply can’t notice in low lighting? For some reason, the killer could ill afford being seen by the neighbors at daytime either.

I can see the point in assuming that the plan was hatched the last minute, or that the murderer was in an impulsive state of mind, suffering from insomnia, or simply, nocturnal.

Her videos are hard for me to listen to because in the Liz Barraza video she was unprepared and didn't know much about her husband or other players, I do love hearing profile insights but I prefer them to get to the point quickly versus rambling.

She has more synthetic and less analytical approach. It works well when wrapping up the case, but not when, essentially, so little is known. Pat Brown speaks too confidently and essentially, cuts off too many branches of option.

Are the garage sale signs immediately viewable on Google maps, when put up, or had the perp to see them himself "live" by driving past? What technical options for stalking are there?

I really doubt one sees garage sales on Google maps. Maybe on FB neighborhood groups?

I am wondering if the murderer lived close, not far. The way we lived, even pre-Covid, I could easier recognize people from work than someone living on my street. If you mostly drive around in your neighborhood, and a family with a teenager has recently moved in several houses down, unless the new neighbors try their best to get known, one of them can rob a local convenience store and I won’t recognize them on the video. I would say, ten years ago, neighbors tried to socialize more, but now the atmosphere has changed. To notice everything around and be friendly was typical for baby boomers, or people who used to live abroad in big cities, or very social retirees. Post-Covid, people are isolated, but even before Covid, the culture of “suburbia” was already disappearing. JMO.

In short - the person may drive from afar, or from three miles away. They might keep the car in their garage and repaint, or return to the owner and get back, and none the wiser. I can identify some neighborhoods around where people, when driving here, would need to stop at a school, or at a nearby church, wait, and then drive if timing matters. They are super close, but across the major highway, so in the morning, people would need to drive out earlier to adjust for the traffic. So I looked at the map, living on the other side of hwy 99th or hwy 45th or close to their intersection would probably necessitate driving out earlier and making a stop at the Goddard school to adjust the time. Or they may live closer, but at the spot with an inconvenient traffic light.

I would be interested in finding out if summer neighborhood parties are common in Tumball? How well do people know each other?

Your questions make me wonder too did this person not have to work that Friday considering they had less than 6 hours of sleep between Thursday night and that Friday morning? Did they take off Friday like Liz did? Did they drive a long distance and is that why they arrived so late to scout the house? Or did their plane land late and they borrowed or rent a car and that why they arrive in the neighborhood at such a weird hour?

How did this perp not crash after committing their crime, running and feeling the after effects of the adrenaline wearing off?

TX - TX - Terri 'Missy' Bevers, 45, killed in church/suspect in SWAT gear, Midlothian, 18 Apr 2016 #49

I realize this has been hashed out a few times, but I just can’t shake the fact that these two blatant murders happened so close in proximity to each other. And so many other similarities. Even if not related, how odd!? MOO IMO

That’s an interesting thought.
One murder is committed by someone dressed up in a SWAT team costume. The other murder committed by someone in some type of costume.
They could be related but I don’t see how they could be the same person committing both crimes. Missy’s killer is overweight and walks in a distinctly awkward way while Liz’s killer practically sprints back to their truck in long graceful strides.

Probably Missy's killer wasn't overweight and had a leg/knee injury (sporting accident?), which has been healed for a long time.
I see a possibility, if both murders were done by someone hired for it. IMO

This is an interesting aspect I have not thought about in a long time. Indeed, if the killer came from far away, then they had to either take the Friday off, have the Friday (or a longer period) off work, or maybe have remote work. IMO Fridays are more often used for remote work even in jobs that don't let you do 100% remote (and it is rare to have meeting calls at 8AM on a Friday morning as well). So they could have just driven anywhere with a decent connection (from a hotel room to a mall parking lot) and attend work as per usual without anyone noticing.
If the killer is local, I don't think the few hours of sleep have to hint at anything other than some obsession or planning with the murder. Attending work after only a few hours of sleep is not that difficult, especially on adrenaline.

It has also been wondered about what this persons home situation was. If they were living alone, they would have no trouble with the drives. If they were living with someone that was unaware of the crime, it is pretty complicated to sneak out so late and then again that early. Would make a lot more sense to try to fit the drives more-or-less into a "normal schedule".
Of course, if they are from far away, they would be away for longer and could have used a "work trip" or even some "going to meet an old friend" cover (and the drives being so close in time would make sense). But if they are local, that's a risky thing to do (being spotted by someone etc), so based on the times they chose, I feel like if they're local, they probably live alone.

Edit: Now that I think about it again - I feel like it is maybe more likely they are not local? Otherwise, why even use the same car that you use for the murder just a few hours before? They could come and "have a look" much earlier (if this was even the aim of that previous drive by), they would also be more likely to be able to use a different car for "having a look" etc. It feels like someone specifically went there in this car for this late Thursday and early Friday, to kill someone.

All just MOO.

Expanding on this.... married housewife. Husband works a nightshift.

Leaves home at dark-thirty with sleeping children.

Arrives at the house and drives by. Parks nearby to get a few hours of sleep. There's a Walmart, there's always a Walmart.

Drives back to the house, gets out, kills EB, for reasons I haven't worked out. Maybe she thinks her own husband is having an affair and incorrectly identifies EB. Could she have been stalking EB on social media, believing she was the problem in her marriage?

After the shooting, throws off the robe, wearing something like an athletic suit underneath, maybe gets stopped by LE, presents as a mom en route to a day care drop-off... the landscape of America, harmless.

By my math, she could have traveled as much as five hours from home....

Where's the nearest airport? Is it possible to rent a truck?

Just trying to have some fresh thoughts. Not particularly committed to any of them...

Or husband is aware of her disturbing activities and doesn't care or even encourages it.
I always get freaked out by couples who kill together.
Just watched a documentary on Rosemary West.

Google Maps are not a live feed - they're a snapshot in time of when the Google car came through with a camera most recently. They can be years old. There would be no way to monitor someone putting up signs through Google maps.

As with the Kohberger car, there are not limitless Nissan PRO4X's in TX on 1/25/19.
(I can only find 1st quarter 2021 #... but we are not talking about millions of trucks,)

I do not think it is a rental*; it is advertised as great for off roading (or running over curbs?)
LE must know how many there were registered in TX in Jan 2019.... it is a finite #. And the truck is not white, so exclude those.

(* how many non-white Nissan PRO4X's were rented in TX on 1/25/19? ...that should be a pretty small #. It is also possible it came from another state but I am just betting not... )

IN 2019, it came in 6 colors:

What are the Color Options for the 2019 Nissan Frontier?

There is a lot to choose from for the 2019 Nissan Frontier and it all begins with one of its four trim level options which include the S, SV, Desert Runner®, and the Pro-4X®. The standard engine for the 2019 Frontier is a 2.5L 4-Cylinder and the SV, Desert Runner®, and Pro-4X® trim levels have the option of getting equipped with a 4.0L V6 engine for added horsepower and torque. You can also pick from Two-Wheel Drive or All-Wheel Drive as well as either a Crew Cab, King Cab®, or a Crew Cab with a long bed. You can also select from six exciting exterior paint color options that are offered for the 2019 Nissan Frontier and you can see all six of them right here below.

• Glacier White
• Brilliant Silver Metallic
• Gun Metallic
• Magnetic Black Pearl
• Cayenne Red Metallic
• Arctic Blue Metallic

Someone smarter than I am can probably guess from the video what color it really was from the tone vs. the chrome trim or something like that- and yeah, it could have been a year prior to 2019, but not sure it had more options previously....

Maybe AI can do the math. IMO.

Yeah, this truck ain't white, silver nor red.
When looking at the images, I'd say black, gun metallic and arctic blue are all possible.

It is also possible that LE are pretty confident in the truck and it's owner already. Proving who was riding the truck and doing the shooting is a more complicated matter. I do think the killers electronic trail will implicate them heavily, but it might be difficult to get hold of, and it might not be enough to move forward ("I asked someone else to actually do it, it was a random drug user I've never seen since").

Do you think the police know everyone who owned one in Texas with that make/model? Do we know for a fact the license plate says Texas?

I don't think we have any information on what state the truck was registered in, but LE might know. I did some calculations a while back and estimated there were on the order of 8000 trucks of the right age/type in Texas in 2019. Plenty of assumptions baked into that number though as specific sales numbers are hard to come by.

There are witnesses to seeing the truck, the neighbors. I can understand getting dark grey confused with black but not arctic blue.
