Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) signed several pieces of legislation Friday to ensure camper safety after more than a dozen people were killed at Camp Mystic, a camp for children in the center of the state, during floods earlier this year.

Camp Mystic also announces plans for a memorial dedicated to "the lives of the campers and counsellors lost on July 4th".www.abc.net.au
Businesses and places of worship and public spaces have deaths all the time and they don't close up never to open again. This is a business, and from the very first day there's been a groundswell of former campers fundraising for them to rebuild and reopen. What matters is that they rebuild above the flood line and have proper emergency and evacuation plans in place before a single camper arrives. They need proper communication with every cabin so that teenagers aren't stuck trying to save kids alone, without support. They need to show that they're not just whitewashing over this last summer and they're serious about the safety of their charges.MOO Talk about cold-hearted. Using this logic would mean that the entire gulf coast region of Mississippi would be off-limits for habitation. Hurricane Katrina roared through with such force she dumped so much water that the storm surge was measured at about 30 feet and several miles inland. We still have 67 listed as officially missing, but the reality is there are hundreds due to the circumstances. No one truly knows the numbers. You could make the same observations with Hurricane Helene, most recently. The tragedies are horrible but part of managing them is recovering and moving on as best we can.MOO Talk about cold-hearted.
