Indeed.
One would imagine that even a skimpy investigation would have prioritised that basic requirement.
Hard to imagine how an investigation could be carried out without it.
Then again, it's not the first shock I received on this journey.
(ETA type)
To get a search warrant issued you need evidence that a crime occurred. A person disappearing after a car crash is not by itself evidence of a crime. Especially since LE has said publicly that it was a single vehicle crash and they have no evidence of anyone else being involved. So getting search warrants may be difficult in this case. It's often an obstacle in missing persons cases.

And a geofence warrant is a particularly broad type of warrant. So broad that some courts have been finding them unconstitutional recently. So I would actually be surprised if they'd gotten one.

And to answer someone else's question, no the PI can't apply for a search warrant themselves. LE has to do it.

Interesting link about geofence warrants.

There’s two big differences that I see between this case, and the one discussed in the link.

On the one hand, a warrant in this case would be much more narrowly focused, since not many people were in the area during the relevant time.

But on the other hand, since there’s no evidence at all that another person was involved, and committed any sort of crime (IMO,) a judge might find it very difficult to sign off on a warrant.

Just adding on to that since there are some new people to this site... not only can we not discuss what we hear in that channel here, we can't even discuss it in that thread. All you can do is listen, not discuss in the main rooms. FYI....
What is the reason for not being able to discuss it anywhere?

What is the reason for not being able to discuss it anywhere?

The reason why is a better question for a mod. All I know is we are not supposed to do it and that was good enough for me. Also note that I did not say it couldn't be discussed anywhere. I said it couldn't be discussed 'here' meaning public threads. Sorry, I guess I should have been clearer about that. Feel free to discuss in pvt. That's not against the site rules.

Found his in the scanner FAQ: ***What happens in the scanner thread, stays in the scanner thread. Do not post scanner dispatches in the public threads.

and...

*Scanner Chit Chat:* Brief discussion about what was heard on the scanner is
allowed. We just don't want to go off track or venture into the rumor zone or
have discussions which should take place in the public threads.

*Personal Chit Chat:* This is allowed, we just don't want it to take over the
thread. If there are on-going personal topics happening, please open a thread in
the Jury Room and help other members by providing a link. Brief personal updates
are allowed. Joking around and humor posts are also fine. It helps to relieve
the tension and/or the monotony when the scanner is slow. We just don't want it
to get out of hand. Please put your personal comments in brackets so member can
distinguish them from actual scanner chatter that is being transcribed.

I know I've seen 'why' somewhere, but I couldn't easily find it. Maybe someone else has that info handy.

There is a scanner post for this case in the scanner thread.
Can someone message me a link to the specific post or the content of the post? I must be daft and I've searched and searched and still cannot find it. Thanks in advance.

There have been instances where names have been mentioned on scanner, i.e who ended up having nothing to do with the incident that have become public due to scanner, if not to WS. I think that is one reason, as well as it is such a second to second type of thing that often has less than correct info, etc...jmo

One thing I've noticed is people confusing ALL they hear in the ~30 min clip as being part of the case they are interested in. Multiple officers call in, they aren't all about the case you're into. I noticed that happened with this particular case, I'm sure it happens to others. I've seen where some calls are very obviously not related to this case, yet it confused some people into thinking it was. That can sure muddle up things.

I think it's to protect the privacy and personal info of the people involved (phone numbers, addresses, etc.) as well as those for people in completely unrelated cases that pop up on the scanner.

Are there any MSM articles containing thoughts/interviews from his friends? His roommates?
None that I’ve seen or that have been brought forward on WS

I’ve been wondering about the phone. If you were alone on a cold dark night and ended up in a ditch, seems like first thing would be to check/find your phone. His dad said in the interview he found it the next day at the tow yard in between the seat and console which made me think, maybe Jason couldn’t find it. But now I’m wondering what if the police found it that night, checked it, threw it back in the car and then during the tow process, it got bounced off the seat and wedged. If that was the case, then that would be weird that Jason took everything else from the car but not the phone. And if the interior lights in the car worked and Jason could search for it, I don’t think he would have left the car until he found his phone. And could the clothes scattered on the road be contents of his backpack and not the clothes he had on? Also, did anyone check if the car was drivable or did they just immediately assume no and tow it. I’m leaning toward a staged scene MOO
