Video taken from former Balch Springs police officer Roy Oliver’s body camera shows the moments leading up to Oliver’s fatal shooting of a 15-year-old boy last year and contradicts the ex-officer’s account.

Oliver is on trial in Dallas on a charge of murdering Jordan Edwards, an African-American freshman who played football at his high school in Balch Springs, as he left a party on April 29, 2017.

The only other officer present when Oliver shot the boy, Officer Tyler Gross, testified Thursday before lunch.

Though Oliver’s defense before his arrest was that he feared for their lives because the car in which Edwards sat was moving backward toward them, body camera footage and witnesses told the opposite story.

Sitting in the back of a police cruiser after his stepbrother was shot in the head by a police officer, Vidal Allen prayed.

He asked the officer who sat up front to pray with him. And he did.

Testifying in Dallas County District Court on Thursday afternoon, Allen, 18, couldn’t remember exactly what he said in that prayer.

“I just prayed that my brother would be OK,” he said. “I asked God to take care of him.”

#RoyOliver gave a statement to Internal Affairs to try to keep his job following the shooting. He was given a Garrity Warning which means what he says to IA can't be used in a criminal investigation. Def says prosecutors & investigator were present & used info in criminal case

Another term thrown around #royoliver #kastigar hearing. Means if govt gives immunity it can compel person to testify & use 5th A statements for both use and derivative immunity. #RoyOliver defense would love immunity. @cathyrusson https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kastigar_v._United_States … @LawCrimeNetwork

#RoyOliver -Judge rules against defense. In his opinion Oliver couldn't have reasonably assumed that the walk through done at 5:20am with Dallas Co. Sheriff's Ofc had anything to do with keeping his job at Balch Springs PD. That walk through was part of the criminal investigation

#RoyOliver - Oliver's truck was rear-ended on April 16, 2017. The occupants of the other car involved stated Oliver got out of his truck, walked up to them and pointed the gun at the driver's head. "I had a gun to my head, " Monique Arrendondo testified at a pretrial hearing.

Wow!!! #RoyOliver had a road rage incident just weeks before he killed #JordanEdwards pointed his gun a two unarmed women in a car. State wishes to admit it. If it doesn't go to murder intent- Does it go to a pattern of recklessness for manslaughter? @LawCrimeNetwork

When Eric Knight watched a news conference conducted by the Balch Springs police chief the day after an officer shot and killed an unarmed 15-year-old boy, Knight decided he needed to come forward.

“(Chief Jonathan Haber) made a statement that a car was accelerating backward, trying to hit a police officer,” Knight said. “At that moment I knew that was wrong.”

Knight testified on Friday in Dallas County District Court about what he saw on April 29, 2017. Ex-police officer Roy Oliver is on trial for murder after he shot into a car full of teenagers that night. Jordan Edwards was shot in the head and died.

The events leading up to the shooting included a party on Baron Drive, which attracted 150 to 300 teenagers. Across the street, members of the Bank Bros gang parked in front of a nursing home and fought. One of them fired 12 rounds into the air, witnesses said.

A former Balch Springs officer who is accused of killing a teenager returned to court Friday for day two of his murder trial.

Police said Roy Oliver opened fire into a moving car with five teenagers inside in April 2017, killing 15-year-old high school freshman Jordan Edwards.

On day two, prosecutors called witnesses to the stand to testify about what they saw and heard during the shooting.

Maxwell Everette, who was in the car with Edwards, began to cry as he described the chaos when he saw Edwards was injured.

Minutes after they witnessed a Balch Springs police officer fatally shoot their friend, four teens pleaded with officers coming to their aid not to hurt them, dash-camera footage shows.

"Please don't hurt me. My little brother's dead," Vidal Allen is heard saying in video shown Monday in court. In the car with Allen and three other teens was the body of 15-year-old Jordan Edwards, who had been fatally shot by Roy Oliver.

The footage was played for jurors during the murder trial of the 38-year-old former Balch Springs officer who fired as many as five times into a car full of high-schoolers, killing Jordan.

In the footage, the teens are told to get out of the car one a time with their hands up, ordered to walk backward to police officers and sit on their knees as they're handcuffed.
