I re-watched Houston Police Chief Acevedo's media presser from Sunday, the 23rd after MB's body was recovered from Bray's Bayou. (I am assuming that it is MB).

He pleaded for everyone who has security cameras along the Bayou, or any water that leads into it, to check for any person or car they see. He asked that they go back to view the past 24 hours, but then said the past 36 hours.

Based on the time-line, he wants to see security video along the waters of the Bayou 12 hours before Maliyah was reported missing. I found that interesting.

Sat. Aug. 22--9:30 am--911 call to report MB missing
Sun. Aug. 23--10:30 am--body found in Bray's Bayou
Requested security video starting Fri. Aug. 21--9:30pm

Chief Acevedo shares details on child's body found in bayou believed to be Maliyah Bass | khou.com

Does anyone know what store they went to and how far it is from where she was found? Sorry if it's been asked already.

here’s the actual segment from Fox 26 that has the store in the background
What happened to Maliyah Bass

This location from the video appears to match this Fast & Easy Beechnut convenience store. MOO

It is about a 5 minute walk from the Sunset Crossing apartments, for reference.

Is it a Valero gas station?

Did someone say that they had a truck? Just wondering because some of these stations have self-operated car wash.
If someone drove a vehicle down near the photographed area of the bayou where body was, the tire treads might have (or had) debris, mud, sand.

You're absolutely right, that gas the curved front. So I guess they maybe walked that night?
But they would need a vehicle for the bayou, that could gave been done another time.
So murky what went on that night!

Honestly I don’t know how to take his comments - it doesn’t make a lot of sense to me

Morning!

Thank you. I'm glad I'm not the only one that can't make sense of his statement.

It's almost like he is saying because they left MB alone to go to the store someone may have seen MB wasn't with them when they left, and came in, and abducted MB.

Even though I don't particularly care for him, but he usually does speaks pretty straight forward about what he says, and means when speaking to the media.

I wish a reporter had ask him to clarify his statement when he said it. (This could have all been prevented if MB had a responsible parent.) (Paraphrasing)

That's a pretty strong statement to make.

Agreed!
What if (speculation) something happened she didn't die of right away, and they should have stayed home and called 911? Could they (like others in past) have put her to bed seeming drowsy or stomach ache and they went to get medicine or ice and come back and she was dead of internal injury?
I'm wondering if she got in someone's temper ?
I saw where a guy killed toddler for interrupting his video game. Or she wouldn't stop crying over broken toybox.
I'm trying to guess if QX said going to store was irresponsible cause we'd think leaving baby alone was, but they'd know they should have called ambulance. But they knew they'd be in trouble so tried to "fix it" themselves first?
I don't know if that makes any sense the way I wrote it.

I am confused as to why no announcement regarding identification.

It's extremely quiet. I know there is COVID to deal with, and Hurricane Laura, but how many African American 2 year old girls are found dead floating in a bayou?

I do wonder what's up.

What did you see or read that made you think they walked instead of drove to the gas station/convenience store that night?

I think it would be strange, if you owned a vehicle, to walk to a gas station convenience store at night even if it was only about five minutes away. So if there is some indication out there that they walked, that raises the question of why not use the vehicle that particular night. Do they not have a vehicle at their disposal and the truck they were seen in is someone else's?

People walk short distances if they have had a drink and are over the limit to drive.

I did put maybe they walked because I didn't know it was so close and it seems a lot of their business before this was known to others and perhaps that night the sound of a vehicle "late late" as QX put it would get attention. They may have taken vehicle, but leaving it parked in front would make people think they were home.

Okay, I understand, this was your speculation.

I was curious because if they indeed did not take a vehicle that could mean they didn't have access to one (which severely limits the possibility of them putting her in the bayou at the location she was found). Alternatively, if they did have the truck but chose to walk, that could mean they needed to clean the truck or point to some other interesting conclusion about what the truck had been used for.

Right, there are many interesting possibilities if they had a vehicle but chose not to use it that night. So that's why I was asking for the confirmation of where the poster felt the info that they walked came from. The poster clarified below it was only speculation.

They may have walked to avoid the truck being seen on CCTV at the gas station.

We live 5 minutes away from a gas station/convenience store, & we frequently walk there (yes, even at night). Mostly so we don’t lose a close parking spot, but also because it’s 5 minutes away. I don’t find it strange at all if they walked there. It IS strange how over the top the boyfriend was with his crying, & that they would leave the toddler alone while the went to the store, amongst many other things.

Does anyone know what time the swimming pool in the apartment complex closes?

My understanding was it was so dirty LE dredged and emptied at the beginning.

This speculation about going to store made me think, what if you call a friend and say: hey my truck broke down can you give us a ride or borrow someone's to use? Far fetched but don't get your own vehicle recorded on cams.
Or flip it opposite:
Maybe even the trip to the store was a ruse; take the baby to bayou but stop at store on way back and get recorded on purpose, for alibi why you went out in middle of the night.

That friend is probably going to come forward with the information in that scenario, though.

I think there are so many cameras on all sorts of homes/businesses/traffic intersections these days that it's going to be very difficult to conceal your entire route even if you are in a borowed car.

The other piece of evidence is phone pings. And I believe that the record of the location of the phones will reveal everything that happened in the time leading up to Maliyah being found.

Whether you think this was a case of homicidal child abuse or think it is a stranger abduction due to parental negligence, either way the people involved are likely not masterminds and may have been panicking. It's doubtful to me that they will have remembered to leave phones at home or try to avoid cameras. I think the HPD will have a pretty straightforward path to the answer.

That's why I wondered how far it was. I was thinking the trip to the store was for an alibi after dumping her body in the bayou.

I wish we'd get some news from LE. I know the hurricane is dominating msm right now but just a wee bit of an update would show that Maliyah isn't being forgotten.

ABC13 just tweeted that Miley Cyrus adopted a dog. Doesn't Maliyah deserve more attention? SMDH.
