I didn't read anything about LE bashing the boyfriend online either. He was extremely emotional in his interview and I think he lumped in complaints about LE not doing a proper job with people online bashing him on Facebook. Or at least that's how I read it.

IOW, two separate complaints. I wasn't impressed by both him and his mother ranting about LE not doing a good job - after all, LE did find Maliyah's body within 24 hours. But I know that it's not uncommon for distraught relatives to blame LE in these kinds of cases.

What I found unusual is that they expressed anger at LE but not at whoever murdered Maliyah. I can see the unrelated grandmother complaining since her interview took place before Maliyah was found but I'm having a hard time about the boyfriend not raging against Maliyah's murderer; instead he was angry at LE and about strangers on FB saying bad things about him. Priorities. MOO.

Boyfriend of mother of Maliyah Bass says police didn't do a good job of searching for missing 2-year-old | khou.com
Yes TA. Very suspicious IMO.

The thought of baby girl alone on that playground with a pillowcase full of letterblocks is ridiculous to me But IMO he must have mentioned the broken toy box ,pillowcase and letterblocks for a reason.....

I'm not speaking of any specific person. In general, with many of the cases I've followed here, people (I'm referring to the guilt party) often interweave lies with bits of the truth. It's like because they know that those facts are the truth, they think it will cause others to believe the lies as well.

HOUSTON – UPDATE: On Saturday, The Texas Center for the Missing has canceled its Houston Regional Amber Alert issued for 2-year-old, Maliyah Bass.

Remains located in Brays Bayou have been positively identified as Bass, the agency reported.
UPDATE: Regional Amber Alert canceled for 2-year-old girl missing out of southwest Houston.

I know we already knew it was her but it sure is painful to read. Rest sweetly dear little Maliyah. Hopefully tomorrow we hear of an arrest. May justice be swift and severe.

ETA: I'll flag my post and notify a Mod that this wee one has been identified.

“They should of took me. They found my baby on an orange float floating down the bayou,” she says

Where did she (mum) get this information from? Specifically what colour the "float" was?

Poor baby. Rest peacefully. And sorry a human could do this to you, Maliyah. You deserved better.

IMO.

Thank God sweet MB has been identified. Why it took so long still puzzles me.

Hopefully now we will see movement in her case, and arrest or arrests will be announced soon.

It's broken my heart knowing MB lay in the morgue unidenitified for as long as she did.

If she disappeared like they are saying, and found rather quickly then why didn't a family member make positive ID visually? That has happened in so many cases where the body was found soon after being killed even if LE showed them photos of the deceased victim.

Taking this long has to have some significance, imo.

Video at link. It seems the family was notified of the ID of Tootie right before the vigil started. :(

Family says body found in Brays Bayou belonged to 2-year-old Maliyah Bass

“We know now that was our Tootie,” said Bass’s grandma R. J.

Snip

“Tootie touched a lot of lives all over the world and I know a lot of people are hurting but I want the city of Houston to know that we will get justice for Maliyah,” J. said.

This is horrible but there might have been some animal predation that made a visual ID impossible. It is also possible that this child has been deceased a lot longer than we think and was placed in the bayou already in advanced decomposition.

This may not be the case in all jurisdictions, but I read once that "positive ID" nowadays is sometimes defined as DNA matching and all other forms of visual ID are considered secondary. Again, this might not be the case everywhere. I still think it wouldn't take that long for DNA to come back either, so the delay may have been an investigative decision.

I have seen that many times. It has actually become the norm, when a young child in a low income area, dies tragically. There is usually a funeral home that offers to donate the funeral.

I have also seen this. In addition, some cities have crime victim funds that families may qualify for to help pay for funeral costs.

I know that vigils like this are how the community collectively mourns and gets closure. But sometimes it just hits me wrong. I just wish the money that is spent on stuffed animals, balloons, flowers and candles would have been spent on this child during her short little life and others like her.
I hear ya. It is frustrating.

But the Teddy Bears will most likely be given to shelters or hospitals for children to cuddle with. And it is nice for the candles and flowers to be there for her, in her memory, while people honour her spirit. It does have a spiritual footprint, IMO.

I am still open to the horrid possibility, that someone happened upon this poor sweetheart, and did this to her. Maybe she was left home alone, or was wandering alone? IDK.
But it might have been neglect that led to this and not direct abusive behaviour?

Heartbreaking and the timing is interesting right at time of vigil.

I absolutely get the spiritual piece of it and I know that people need to grieve. It just makes me sad that a child has to die or be neglected to see this outpouring. You know, I look at the balloons and think, were there nights Maliyah went to bed hungry? Or other children living in that apartment complex like her? Just my thoughts.

I agree. It's taking this long for a reason. Let's hope a very strong case is being built by LE and there will be an arrest soon.

Given that we don't have the facts LE does, I agree it's important to stay open minded about what happened here. Poor sweet little girl.

Amateur opinion and speculation
