It's getting scary along the Texas/Louisiana coastline. I doubt we'll hear much about Maliyah during the next 24 hours. Chief Acevedo has his hands full right now.

My thoughts are with the people of Texas and LA - my granddaughter is at Tulane and she says it just started raining.

Thank God for Joggers, If this had hit before they found Maliyah they might have never found her. Hope everyone in that area is staying safe.

LE must know by now that it is, or is not, Maliyah. I can assure you that DNA would have been done very quickly and Maliyah would have been identified. If it wasn't Maliyah, they would have been out looking for her yesterday and earlier today. The search would have continued.

So why haven't they officially declared that Maliyah has been found, cancelled the Amber Alert and are moving to next steps?

I know that a Hurricane is coming fast, but they know it's Maliyah.

I know I said I would have to take a pass on this case, but apparently I cannot look away.

A thought came to me just now. Has it been mentioned if the apartment has been searched at all? Have dogs come in to sniff around? Any activity at all concerning the home?

I would really be interested in knowing if there is LE activity IN the apartment.
This aligns with my upthread post where I was wondering *what* was purchased during the late night excursion the mom and BF made to the store. If I knew what was purchased, it would reinforce or refute my current speculation.

Here are some interesting statistics from the Dept. of Justice Statistical Briefing Book (DOJ).

In the category of Child Maltreatment, 78% of the Perps are a Parent. 4% are the unmarried Partner of the Parent.
Source: Characteristics of perpetrators of child maltreatment, 2018

In the category of Homicide, of the female child victims between the ages of 0-5 years, 80% of the time the child knew the Offender. 68% of the time the Perp is a family member, 29% an acquaintance, and 2% of the time a stranger.

Source: DOJ Statistical Briefing Book - Victim-offender relationship in juvenile homicides by age of victim, 2009-2018

So, now I have a firm amateur opinion and speculation.

I'm trusting they must have their reasons. My thoughts are with those in the path of the hurricane. Stay safe everyone!

I think it was a large gas station “store” rather than a big box or convenience store. There are gas pumps but it’s not clear exactly what type of store it is.

What happened to Maliyah Bass

I may be remembering wrong, but I thought it was a large gas station “store” rather than a big big or convenience store.
A lot of gas station stores sell garbage bags and cleaning supplies plus a lot of other miscellaneous items. It could pretty much be anything from cigarettes, beer, bread, to you-name-it. At least that’s the way it is wherever I’ve stopped. They charge a fortune for stuff like that but it’s handy.

Very true. I edited my post after I rewatched the video.

Alright, I don't know how to interpret this:
The Harris County ME report (that I posted said black female dod 08/23/2020 no name or age) also says although CAUSE of death is not pending ,
report is not ready,
death certificate is not ready
and body is not ready for transport.
Also says Place of death is (in caps)
BAYOU
So he knows what "this person" died of" but some complication with report?
Maybe not ready for transport means not letting her go to funeral home/may need for future evidence?

I'm there too and mine says COD Pending. Are we looking at the same file - ML20-3581?

I 100% agree, especially on the Amber Alert. I'm shocked that most LE won't use it till they know they can and it meets the criteria and yet here we pretty much know and she's still listed. IMO

Yes, thats the case #. I had seen it before so maybe updated? IDK, it had said "NO" under 'is it pending.'
Some things on report I don't understand.
I wish they would conclude cause I worry certain people will use storm as excuse to leave town.

Just guessing, but perhaps they are waiting on experts/second opinion on the COD. I'm sure they don't want to leave any room for speculation, as a good defense attorney can often turn that in to "reasonable doubt". With the pandemic and storms, a delay is understandable.

I looked earlier at ALL the cases from the 22nd & 23rd and they all say the same thing:
Pending, on MOD, COD, next of kin "NOK", etc.
Clearly they're severely backed up.
Sadly with this storm coming, I think that's only going to delay things much, much longer.

@crush checked earlier and said that the COD was showing as *not* pending, implying a COD had been found, but when I searched it showed as pending, which I expected. I think they (crush) were wondering if that meant anything or if it was just a data entry glitch.

I'm not surprised that the autopsy report isn't ready yet but I was hoping we'd get a preliminary report from the ME. Luckily it's looking like Houston won't get the brunt of the storm so maybe things will move along tomorrow.
