I read it was a Dj who crashed the pool and then tweeted out invitations to attend the "party" for 15.00 a person. He apparently has done this before and switches neighborhoods.

Apparently there are tweets that prove this. Google it... I have to bring my kids to the dentist.

The attorney said the apology was for anyone offended. I would say some of those kids were more than offended by the actions of Casebolt.
What I still can't get over was the adults that stood around while this was happening and not one of them stepped up to try and stop it.
As a matter of fact they seemed to be trying to block the teens from filming.
I know if I had been there I would have at least said something to the officer along the lines of what are you doing or stop it after he grabbed that young girl and threw her to the ground.

Anecdotally, I can attest to this as I work in the health & wellness fields, that steroid use is rampant amongst police officers.
And before I get into trouble, here is a link to back it up:
http://abcnews.go.com/US/story?id=3745740

CoolJ
Glad you bring to this discussion the benefit of your experience in H&W fields.

Is the 'steroid use is rampant amongst police officers' stmt based on your experience in H & W or based on link? The link's support re "rampant" steroid use by LEOs: 11 or + officers in one PD in PA and an est. 25% of officers in one PD in WA.
Not sure if that is 'rampant' & not sure how that ties to poss steroid use by this TX LEO.

But I do not dismiss poss that he was using steroids & if ppl have info suggesting this LEO h/bn using, I think we'd all welcome those observations. (BTW, some of his actions seemed off kilter, at best).

_________________________________________________________
Close reading of abc link does not support 'rampant' LEO steroid use conclusion, imo. Links shows -
- 'Changed name', a PA LEO, who "turned to illegal anabolic steroids" plus "at least 10 other officers in his 75-member department were users when he started taking them."
- "Gene Sanders, a Spokane, Wash., police psychologist, estimates that up to 25 percent of all police officers in urban settings with gangs and high crime use steroids."

Other ref's to steroid use by LEOs do not give sources, do not quantify, just give fuzzy impressions:
- "increasing trend among urban police officers working tough beats" and
- "growing number of incidents."

Other ref's quantify steroid use by US teens & adults, not LEOs.

Maybe I'm missing info in article showing 'rampant.' Or splitting hairs.

Here is a link to the PC with the officer's attorney and another gentleman who says the officer and others have been receiving death threats on a daily basis.

Sorry this is a youtube link and delete if not allowed.

There is nothing to suggest this guy was on steroids. I was just responding to another post.

If I had been there and witnessed how Casebolt was treating those young people I would have wanted to say something also. I also wondered why the adults just stood around and did nothing. I came to the conclusion that this cop was out of control and I think that if any bystander tried to talk him down that there would be a possibility that Casebolt would have started shooting. Maybe the bystanders that just stood around felt the same way. I am glad he resigned. Hope he gets out of Texas.

Is there any picture showing a crowded pool or pool area? All of the pictures and film I've seen merely show a smallish crowd milling around a street corner. And if the 'kids' had moved away from the pool, then what was the rationale for manhandling them and pointing a weapon? The Chief of Police called the officer's actions 'out of control' and 'indefensible.' Shouldn't that end the attempts of the cop's supporters to defend him?

And I don't know who the big short and tee-shirt wearing 'helper' was-security? But when the girl sat up, he moved immediately up to her and as far as I can tell, pressed or at least positioned his genital area to the back of her head. UGH!

Having said all that, I think that the officer is deeply troubled and needs some sort of help for his troubles.

There are, simply put, no excuses for his behavior, and I'm astonished we're seeing some here. As mentioned above, his chief called his actions indefensible; Casebolt has quit and apologized. And yet we read people blaming the teenagers, or saying Casebolt had a bad day, or that people were swearing. I hope he is charged criminally and sued civilly.

So as a Texan who lives fairly close to McKinney I feel I should chime in. The problem all comes down IMO to no one giving respect. The kids didn't respect the rules, the security guard or the cops. The cop didn't respect that girl. If everyone would just give a little more respect to everyone, including themselves, the world would be such a better place. But respect is really something I have seen diminishing with a quickness in every facet of society.

I will say this, I do think teens are out of control. I remember being a teenager(it wasn't ALL that long ago), and the foolish things my friends and I did. I don't remember ever blatantly being disrespectful or cursing at adults. I remember sitting orderly in rooms after cops busted our parties and waiting for breathalyzers. However, it has been taken to the next level. My daughter and I have stopped going to the neighborhood park in the evenings because of the amount of kids there. There is a basketball court and lots of teen boys congregate there and I will tell you, I have never heard such filthy cat calls in my life. I am a mother, with my 2 year old daughter, and they still had zero respect on more than one occasion. These are not poor kids, these are well to do kids who most likely attend The nearby private Christian school. So it's not just one group or one demographic, a respectful teen today is sadly a pleasant rarity.

Sorry for the rant, I'm just sick of disrespect, and I don't care who it's coming from it has to stop.

Beautifully said and spot-on.

Respect begets respect. And those in positions of authority should be modeling that respect.

Yes, and like I said it's all over the place! Teachers, cops, parents towards their children, children towards their parents...I just don't know when it became socially acceptable to be a total jerk? Like did I miss the memo?

And while I do agree the cop used excessive force, I will say had I been the girl in the video and had cursed/disobeyed what I was told to do, even if I was in the right, my butt would have been grass and my dad the lawn mower.

I just wish instead of turning into what it has it would be used as a moment to learn from. What if the kids would have followed the rules? What if they would have listened to the security guard? What if fellow patrons of the pool wouldn't have got snippy? What if they listened to the officers? What if the officer came in more calm? What if none of them chose to curse? So many things could have lead to a better outcome, but not the teens or the cop who has resigned looked to do anything differently.

ETA: re read this and forgot the whole dang point I was trying to make! So many things could have resulted in a better outcome, but no one is discussing those things. I wish parents would sit down with their kids and say look, you won't always make the right choices but when you do mess up, take responsibility, don't just follow the crowd, and always be respectful especially in a situation like this. And I wish police chiefs would talk to their officers and say look, our job is to protect, and sometimes that requires being an enforcer and sometimes that requires a different type of force, a guiding force. Sadly for both kids and cops making the wrong judgement call could cost them their life.

We are Southerners.

My DD went through the dreaded preteen icky-poo eye-rolling, huffing and puffing stage. But rest assured she would pop out a "Yes, Sir" or "Yes Ma'am" when she knew her goose was about to be cooked.

Why? Because I always modeled respect for others.

On the flip side, I taught her to obey her instincts and NEVER blindly obey some power-mad nutter with a badge just "because". Being raped/beaten/abused is not a trade-off for showing respect.

I am kind and respectful to everyone I meet. Unless they give me a reason not to extend that respect and trust.

Although I agree with your thoughts here on the lack of respect in today's society. I find it somewhat ironic when us Gen X'ers and Baby Boomers complain about the teenagers of today........ It is us who raised these disrespectful little hellions!!!

More than likely the ones that complain about disrespectful behavior are the ones that didn't raise disrespectful teens. JMO

In my experience. And I have had a lot with this age group. The entire Millennial generation has been raised with a sense of entitlement unseen in previous generations. Ask any teacher today their levels of day to day stress. Things have changed in the last ten years. Big Time.

Just odd the lack of reaction from the adults. Just strolling along the sidewalk as though nothing unusual was happening in the grass. I don't get it, but it could be that my personality wouldn't allow me to shrug and look the other way.
I did see one adult male bend down and try to calm the girl while Casebolt was restraining her so there is that.
