TX - Sandra Bland, 28, found dead in jail cell, Waller County, 13 July 2015 #3

I will agree that no amount of money will replace a loved one. So what's the point of trying to get money, just to make someone, (the taxpayers) pay?

I'll take a wild guess and say that her family members are taxpayers, themselves, and a wild presumption that most of us here are, as well. JMO

I want to point out what a difference in 'tone' this story has taken over time. At first, there was national outrage, and a belief that this innocent girl was lynched by a racist group of LEOS. Her life was perfect and sunny, she never would have harmed herself, and they killed her and covered it all up.

Now, we see an entirely different reality. And now the complaint is : ' why didn't these inept jailers KNOW she was suicidal? ' What a difference a little time and transparency makes.

Why, what a coincidence, I have a PhD in Schadenfreude.... [emoji6]

Having just done a job search and relocated in the last year, I know it's not easy to find that great job that's a great fit. Yes, network, keep your eyes open, consider nontraditional positions. And be prepared to move both within a company or change companies if you want to advance rapidly. That's just the nature of professional work these days.

Not sure what a person with an agricultural degree would work that into. Sounded like she was trying to move more into a human relations position?

Again, I do not think that Sandra Bland just arrived in Texas. She may have technically just came back day before, but according to her online job resume she hadn't worked since April 2015. It was July 10th that she was pulled over for failure to use turn signal. JMHO

I wish a verified attorney would chime in regarding SB'S previous reporting her depression via video and the healing cuts on her left wrist. IANAL but I have to wonder why the family didn't know she was hurting emotionally when they spent so more much time with her than the authorities in TX. It leaves me scratching my head......

I think that happens with most big stories, At least what I have seen on here.

Kind of like the stages of grief,

Why don't families know their kids are horrific killers such as the two brothers that almost wiped out the whole family in Oklahoma? Those kids lived with the family

It happens with most big stories where activist groups take them to the public and try to fit them into their own narrative. I think BLM tried to sell this narrative and did a great job getting it out to MSM with their 'spin' on it. Unfortunately it was totally inaccurate.

While they lived with their families they were not 'horrific killers.' AFAIK, they had never killed anyone previously. But SB had tried to kill herself previously, and she spoke about her issues on u-tube, but her family was apparently not aware of those issues previously.

It's pretty common for friends and families of suicide victims to not be aware that their loved ones are suicidal though. And even when they're aware, it can be a nightmare trying to access resources to keep them safe from themselves. In one other recent case, family was aware and warned officers when making their 911 call. Eventually, their loved one was arrested and the arresting deputy passed the information onto the jail staff. Their loved one committed suicide in jail. An investigation has begun.

“Many people who commit suicide do so without letting on they are thinking about it or planning it,” says Dr. Michael Miller, assistant professor of psychiatry at Harvard Medical School.

In Sandra's case, a magistrate should have been notified when she answered affirmatively about suicide attempts and depression to order a mental health evalution. That didn't happen at any point. About 1/3 of all jailhouse suicides occur within the first week of incarceration. IMO it's largely preventable.

my point was regarding the stigma of mental illness, for which we have msm to prove SB stated she was depressed and an autopsy made public she had cut marks on her left wrist in various stages of healing.

There is a catch 22 here in that much of this discussion inadvertently supports the denial of mental illness and how often it is left untreated. If only SB was given the opportunity and support to discuss it perhaps she would have felt comfortable seeking help for it.
As long as this attitude that mentall illness is a charector flaw instead of the illness it is people will continue to remain untreated and suicides that could have been prevented will continue to occur.

After watchin the video of news conf last week with newly released video. It shows the initial questionnaire being completed in the room where she first entered. The typed out one, was done at the booking desk. So that is 2 diff people getting 2 diff conflicting answers/information obtained from Sandra Bland. Yet neither observed her as being suicidal. I do see a concern over possibility of someone not seeing the differences in info. That is an issue. JMHO

Yes, but SB'S family has repeatedly denied she suffered from depression unlike the family in your example who provided LE.with said information.

Yes, I agree the conflicting information raises questions and the jailers may very well bare some sort of liability. Maybe I am nkt explaining my question well. In the court of law how will the outcome of a wrongful death lawsuit be affected by the family saying, in so many words, the jailers were responsible for not being aware she was depressed and suicidal when, until today, the family made it quite clear there was no possible way Sandra could have taken her own life. How can the jailors be expected to notice something in some they had met about 36 hours earlier, when tne family had. Been arou d her for so much longer but swore up abd down it wasn't possible? I'm just curious about the legal aspevt of it.

The county's outside counsel, Larry Simmons, issued a statement Tuesday, expressing sympathy to Bland's family on behalf of the county.

"We look forward to presenting all the evidence to the court, in the context of the applicable standards for civil liability, and intend to vigorously defend the case. We will be filing a response soon, and our court filings will clearly articulate the county’s legal position in this matter," the statement said.

The family and activists have raised questions over the traffic stop and whether Bland killed herself. Bland's mother said "anything is possible" when asked about whether her daughter's death was suicide or homicide, but she said she didn't believe Bland would kill herself.

Reed-Veal also said she watched Encinia's dash-cam video of the heated traffic stop just once. "I will not watch it again," Bland's mother said, adding that she felt "anger, disgust, sadness."

 SO, its the Jail fault on the bond too???? They knew where she was could they not call the jail, if they truly were going to bail her out???

When a reporter asked why the family didn't post bail to get Bland out of jail, Reed-Veal walked away in apparent disgust, though Cooper said it was a fair question.

"There was a communication issue with the jail," Cooper said
.

Bland had called asking for bail money, which the family collected; they were expecting a call back from Bland, which they never got, Cooper said.

"We never heard from Sandy after that," Cooper said. “The next call was about her suicide."]
