This same ICE facility received bomb threats in August

A man was arrested in August after he entered the same Dallas ICE facility claiming to have a bomb in his backpack, according to the Department of Homeland Security, external.

The 36-year-old US citizen, Bratton Dean Wilkinson, had showed the building's security staff a device on his wrist that he described as a bomb "detonator," the DHS said.

A senior DHS official said at the the time: "These incidents come after months of smears and rhetoric by activists, politicians, and the media comparing ICE law enforcement to the Nazi Gestapo, kidnappers, and the Secret Police."

Maybe his shot was not accurate and he meant to shoot officers?

If he was aiming at detainees, that would seem like a personal motive? idk.

So far, this doesn't make much sense. But, then again, what shooting does?

I was thinking maybe he just shot indiscrimintely and usually officers have bullet proof vests on which offers some level of safety. I do know high power rifle fire often can still penetrate vests so maybe not.

Another thought I had was if someone was a victim of a specific person they were transporting, then maybe it was a targeted attack on someone.

It is disturbing that someone could gain access to a roof in the vicinity of a facility like this. I don't know if they've said what building the person was on the roof of, but I assume many buildings have security that prevents people from gaining access to the roof. Maybe it's a person that had access being they had credentials for the building. It seems roof access would/should still be very restrictive even if it's to prevent people from jumping.

Just sad no matter what the motive is. There is no motive that excuses murdering anyone like this.

Is there info on what happened to Wilkinson? He was arrested, but did he get bail? Could this be the same person?? idk

This might be a dumb question, but could officers have been hit, but bullet-proof gear protected them? Was it a spray of bullets and detainees were hit - or targeted shots specifically aimed at detainees?

hoping that info and more will eventually be shared. Right now I am sure they are still trying to determine that and more. Prayers for an end to the killing, no matter what the motive ends up being.

No ICE employees injured, detainees among victims - DHS official

No ICE employees were injured in today's shooting at the Dallas facility, but detainees were hurt, according to Tricia McLaughlin, Assistant Secretary at Department of Homeland Security.

"We know our ICE law enforcement was not injured but we are not sure about local security and other local law enforcement," McLaughlin tells Fox News.

"But I can confirm the detainees were among the victims."

I would be pleased if upper-level officials didn't release info or opinions before local LE at the scene confirmed what actually happened.

Everyone (and I'm including the entire universe of humans not anyone specifically) is so eager to be quick to respond, when "quickness" shouldn't take priority over "accuracy."

I imagine that a determined person could probably find a way to climb onto the roof from the outside of a building (using a fire escape, maybe?), although that would probably also be quite noticeable

What we know about the shooting

  • Two people are dead at the ICE facility in Dallas this morning, an ICE spokesperson confirmed to NBC News.
  • The three people shot are ICE detainees, an ICE spokesperson told NBC News. No ICE officers were hurt.
  • The suspected shooter is dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said.
  • The shooter fired multiple rounds from a roof or an elevated position down into the field office’s sally port, an ICE spokesperson confirmed.
  • The motive behind the shooting, or what the shooter was targeting, is not immediately clear.
  • Dozens of police units have responded to the area and were dispatched around 7 a.m. local time, according to the Dallas Police’s active incidents page.

“FBI sources told FOX 4 the shooter was on the roof of the law firm building behind the Dallas ICE facility and fired into an unmarked van with an ATF driver that was bringing detainees to the facility.

Investigators believe they know the identity of the shooter, but they are still working to confirm and verify that information before releasing his name to the public.”

Listening to the press conference now and they said the shell casing near the shooter had anti ICE messages written on them.

<modsnip: quoted post deleted>

There have been attacks on ICE agents in recent days/weeks/months, even THAT facility recently. When detainees are shot the immediate question, I had was WHY? and was it an attack on agents or on detainees because there are sick people from all viewpoints and ALL motives are on the table here. So, if they have evidence that bullet casings display anti ICE messages, then that is something factual they can release to speak to a motive. It isn't rhetoric, if they release something factual. If the messages were anti-immigrant, then I'd want to know that as well. If they kept that quiet then I'm sure some would be saying why are they keeping the motive quiet and there would be something bad to say about that as well.

Sometimes I think people can't win either way. Release info, it's bad, don't release info it's also bad.

I don't think politicians should speak out before facts are known either. JMO

Joe Rothrock, the special agent in charge at the Dallas FBI office, said the shooting is being investigated as targeted violence.

Rothrock said early evidence from rounds fired in the shooting contained messages that were anti-ICE in nature.

so some moron who hated ICE, presumably because of their role in taking the undocumented in to custody, decided he was going to show them, by opening fire, resulting in the killing and injuring of the very same people that ICE had in custody??

Jesus wept this world's gone mad. IMO
