Wife's tears for husband 'who died in Essex lorry container' after paying £11,000

A priest in Vietnam's Nghe An province has said people are 'covered in sorrow' amidst fears that their family members have lost their lives while on the way to the UK

[...]

The dad had been working illegally in Romania and Germany before he lost his job.

The blow led him to ask his wife Hoang Thi Thuong to help raise £11,000 to cover the cost of an illicit trip from Germany to the United Kingdom where he hoped to find work.

"I lost contact with him on October 21," his devastated wife old Reuters.

"I have a big debt to pay, no hope, and no energy to do anything".

BBM sounds like illegal immigration if she has taken debt to pay for his entry. So awful. It's beyond our comprehension, really.

I wondered about refrigeration whilst on ferry as I’m a motorhomer and my friends did a 24 hour ferry trip from Italy to somewhere and you park your motorhome in with the lorries and plug into the ferry’s electric all down the side of the ship there’s plug in points so you stay living in your motorhome for the journey rather than go to a cabin if you see what I mean . I know this is a long journey . However with I just cross Poole to Cherbourg 4 hours with our motorhome as we are really big we get put in with the lorries and I can’t recall ever seeing any plug in points on Brittany Ferries for lorries but maybe as it’s a short trip and not an exclusive “freight” trip these are completely different transport options

26 October 2019:

Dad of woman who sent chilling texts 'from inside Essex lorry' tells of heartache

"I've lost both my loved one and my money," dad Pham said in an interview with CCN.

Despite earning the equivalent of $400 (£311) a month between them, the couple scarped together the thousands of dollars needed to send their daughter to the UK.

After they paid the smugglers, Tra My travelled through China and France on her way to Pursfleet.

"The smugglers said that this was a ... safe route, that people would go by airplane, car ... if I had known she would go by this route, I would not have let her go," Pham said.

The devastated mum and dad are now waiting on the British and Vietnamese authorities to send their daughter's body home.

I wonder with the pictures being supplied if they can rapid identify some of the victims. Maybe return them to their families quicker. One can hope.

From Alice's link, here is the distinction between a container and a trailer:

It is not a container, a container is a metal box used for shipping on a ship without wheels which can be stacked on top of each other and can be loaded onto a container trailer in order to go on the road.

The unit that was used is a road vehicle, a trailer, with wheels and cannot be stacked. A tractor unit (lorry/cab) will have delivered the trailer to Zeebrugge and left the port. Another tractor unit belonging to the port would have towed it onto the ferry. Another tractor unit belonging to the port in Purfleet would have towed the trailer off the ferry and the tractor unit driven by this Irish guy would have collected the trailer from the port. At no point would the trailer be opened unless requested by customs.

Good distinction. For whatever reason I was envisioning a container that needed to be set on a chassis.

I'm definitely no lorry expert, but looking at these pics from different angles it does seem like Mo's cab only had 2 wheels (each side) under the container?

A trailer in which 39 migrants were found dead made two stops in the same area where the discovery was made after returning from a trip to Belgium in the preceding days.

It is understood that GPS data shows the refrigerated trailer made the two stops in Thurrock, close to the industrial estate at Grays in Essex where the bodies were found in the early hours of Wednesday, October 23rd. While a precise timeline is not known, the previous trip is thought to have occurred between October 17th and 22nd.

The data indicates that the trailer made two return trips between Britain and Europe in the days leading up to the discovery, the second of which culminated in the find.

The first departure is understood to have taken place from Dover, with the trailer then making stops in different Belgian towns.

It then briefly crossed into France, stopping in border regions, and then again in Dunkirk, sources said. When it returned to the UK the first time, it twice stopped in Thurrock near the Grays area.

Last voyage
Sources said the trailer was then tagged close to Purfleet, the Essex port which services Belgium, before appearing again on the continent, following a similar pattern through Belgium, into France, and back to the UK.

The final stops the trailer made before its last voyage took place near Dunkirk, before the trailer passed back into Flanders.

Its next recorded stop is on Eastern Avenue, near Grays in Essex, where the discovery of the bodies was made.

So, if I'm reading this right, it's entirely possible this was the 2nd load of people to be brought through in this trailer? JMO.

Thought this was on the cards due to the time limit. Wondering if the Warrington couple will be let go and the driver will be charged
Just hope that his wife knows what's going on and she doesn't find iut on TV with the test of us.

My personal feeling right now is they will all be charged with offences relating to the incident, but not murder. Looks to be a huge, organised operation.
If the dead were discovered at the port or at the goods destination i may well think differently but i just cant think of any logical explanation for the driver to have stopped and opened the truck unsupervised unless to let people out or check their welfare. All MOO

The tractor unit would have single wheels on the front of the cab and then two axles of double wheels on the back - so 10 wheels in total on the unit.
Hope that makes sense
