Some of the 39 were updating family about the various stages of their journey. One had called to say she was getting into the container:

The 19-year-old’s brother told the BBC she called him early on Tuesday to say she was getting into a container and would be switching her phone off to avoid being caught. They had not heard from her since and the people smugglers had since returned money to the family. Relatives of the 26-year-old, with whom she was travelling with, had also been given some money back.

Vietnamese family fears daughter may be among Essex lorry victims

So basically the police will already know where and when they were loaded on board, and then it's a case of who closed those doors and locked them in.

I'm stunned by this refund thing. Not sure what to think about it. Almost seems like a slap in the face, "case closed". Surely these financial transactions will be trackable?

Yes this refund thing is horrid.

It's like - sorry your family member died, here's your deposit back, now keep quiet!

I think the driver has been charged with murder as he was 'hands on ' and the rest were hands off

He hasnt been charged has he?? I suspect if anyone called the police and said 'there's 39 bodies in my truck' , police turn up 'allo allo allo what's happened here then?' 'I have no idea officer' will get arrested on suspicion of murder

I'd like to know this too. I think when people hear "Stansted" they immediately think it means the airport - Stansted is an actual town too. :)

Was going to say l thought they said 'at' rather than 'in' but l see this was confirmed further down the line

I'm wondering about that too, especially with that text about struggling to breathe. Doesn't have to have been cold, just being airtight would be enough.

Welcome, by the way!

I am guessing that frozen was a guess from the media when they found out it was refrigerated, because this hasnt been confirmed and probably won't be until PMs and families are informed

I think what horrifies me is it basically turns them into merchandise. Worse yet, that's exactly what they are. A commodity to smugglers.

You don't need intent for charges. IF, and a big if right now, he agreed to do the final leg of the journey he is 100% getting a charge.

Yes he'll be getting charged alright and I hope he will be too. But murder, I doubt that because the time frame just can't prove that, maybe manslaughter for sure along with aiding and abetting.

If he was the one for example who sealed the trailer door knowing a 10 hour trip on about was ahead, then yep I'd go with murder but collecting 39 dead bodies from a port then finding them 10 minutes later to me isn't murdering them all.

I'm not sure of the intricacies of laws like this but maybe they'll charge him as arrested then work down from that. Not sure to be honest.

It would be a brave person who named him after the Deputy Chief Constable's latest comments.
I haven’t seen these comments, is there a link?

I think you're talking about 2 different people. 48 year old arrested at Stansted.

Mo Robinson, age 25. His parents were flown in. Their house was reportedly searched. If I recall correctly, 3 residences searched in connection with Mo.
Thanks, yes I know he is 25. I was just wondering if the person arrested at Stansted is possibly related given the age.

On Channel 4 News they asked: How do you stop trafficking?

You can't stop it. Intercept all containers and they'll just get on boats. And it's only going to get worse with climate change. The only way to stop migration is to protect environments all over the world.

I just had a similar lightbulb moment but I'm sure it's just coincidence.

I agree, it certainly fits with what has been reported - house raided and then on their way to England to support MR.

There are lots of Twitter links but the ones I've seen have snipped off the start when she warns people to be careful about what they say. Here's her full statement.

sorry to be picky .. but ... I think that it says "a container" rather than "the container"

Thats a good point! Does anyone know if they are turned on inside the cab or on the fridge itself

It also strikes me as odd that the messages translate to her saying she is Vietnamese with her address to her mom and dad. Maybe she did it so the police would know who she was MOO

That's me translate to she had a burner phone. And if she died, she wanted the burner phone found. Which had her name and information and nationality.

I'm behind this curve

Picky again ... no evidence yet of smuggling .. trafficking .. or organised.. could have been empty container being returned to renter ... open .. and a number of people spotting an opportunity ..

I see that frozen .... is now being reported in inverted commas .... did anyone actually say the container was frozen? It is a "reefer" but may not have been on?

That could be. The poor Vietnamese woman said she could'nt breathe rather than she is freezing to death.

It’s not even that we have ‘repeat posts’ of articles, it’s different MSM reporting on the same stuff, just sometimes with added information or conflicting information, so I find it useful just to post them all..

And Thank You for that @HayLouise !

How would he be able to prove he didn't know anything about the people inside the trailer? I think he'll be charged whether he knew or not. A good attorney might get him out though if there's no proof found that he definitely knew what was going on.

But as others here I'm baffled that he opened the trailer doors. It means it either wasn't sealed or he broke the seal, which as the driver he shouldn't have done, and it would be a big red flag.

Leaning towards 'he knew' atm.
