He was bound to be sobered up.. IMO, when you are drunk and something happens you snap back to reality, you panic.. Maybe not completely sober obviously, but he was aware of his actions

Yes, I agree completely.

Mum of accused shown knife and clothes in court

The accused’s mum is shown a picture of a knife found on the shore which she says “could be” from her kitchen.

She is also shown other knifes from her home and agrees it is “very similar”.

She adds she wasn’t aware one was missing and doesn’t know how it would have got to the shore.

The accused’s mother is also shown a black hoodie top and agrees it looks like her son’s.

She is then shown a photo of a pair boxer shorts tangled inside a pair of trousers/jogging bottoms that were found on the beach and agrees they look like her son’s.

Alesha MacPhail's body had 117 injuries - but her bare feet were unmarked

Does anyone else think it's odd that the mum says it's the first time she's seen the CCTV of him with the torch? If it was 3 hours later then I could understand why she might not have seen it but it's literally minutes after the other footage.

Is 9 mins enough time? His house is over half a mile away from the crime scene. He would have had to run pretty fast there and back to have any time to "check" anything.

I was talking about the skip rather than the body. I think it's feasible he's thrown the hoody in there and then gone back with a torch to check how hidden it actually is.

Accused’s mother tells court he was adamant that he had nothing to do with it (Alesha’s murder) and there was no way his DNA would be on her because he hadn’t seen her, hadn’t been with her.

Mother said by discussing DNA with him, he might have said ‘I know something’ but he was adamant none of his DNA would be anywhere near (Alesha). Mother says after discussion, with her & husband’s aunt & uncle, they then sent him off to bed

She may have had to watch a lot of footage, saw him leave once and return once and figured that was it, not considering the possibility he may have left the house again.

Police would have given her a receipt for 4 knives, so she would know there was one missing

So, he leaves a third time....with a TORCH ! Is a torch a flashlight? IMO, He wasn't that drunk because he is definitely freaking out about trying to cover his tracks. Frantically jumping walls, showering and coming and going with or without clothing. He may have been somewhat under the influence of alcohol but he clearly knows he needs to cover his tracks and, it appears to me, he is frantically trying to do so. Basically 4 am on a Monday morning. Such strange behavior. !!
Yes it's a flashlight.

Accused’s mother has finished giving evidence. DS Stephen Hendry is now being called.

DS Hendry tells jurors accused gave DNA evidence willingly. Accused asked if it would hurt. His evidence is now finished. Prosecution calls Alexander McLachlan.

Court hears Mr McLachlin has a home CCTV system and decided to check it for signs of Alesha MacPhail. Says he spotted movement on the shoreline in the early hours of the morning. Showed someone carrying ‘something’ on their back.

Mr McLachlin says he gave CCTV to the police. Jury are now being shown the footage.

Hmmm...I wonder if he may have suffocated her in her bed and killed her before he took her from the home, which is why no one heard anything from her and then he may have carried her/transported her out of the house and raped her after she died at the location where her body was found. The testimony from the medical examiner suggests he thinks she may have been sexually before she died but it does not say he is certain. The sexual assault could have happened within a short period of time from her "kidnapping". Actually, for Alesha's sake, I do hope she was not alive during the sexual assault.

She claims she watched it for signs of Alesha. Surely you'd start from the present time and rewind backwards for possible sightings. It's entirely possible it just seems bizarre she doesn't see the footage just minutes later of her son leaving with a torch despite the claims she viewed the CCTV to try and find any sightings of Alesha.

I'm a bit late to this case and have only just fully caught up including the defence. Can't believe how laughable it is, especially the condom bit, like something out of a movie! I'm amazed he hasn't just plead guilty unless the defence have something up their sleeve.
