There’s a delay to the trial this morning.

Good morning.

An issue has arisen which is causing delays to the resumption of the trial today - day 30.

At this stage there is no definitive time as to when it may get underway.

We will keep you updated with information as and when it is passed on to the jury.

The part about when Arthur wanted to cook her breakfast or mother's day and she said she didn't want anything from him. Absolutely heartbreaking, I can imagine the rejection Arthur felt. Vile woman.
Aw this is just so heartbreaking, he was all excited to make her breakfast, the little dote and then she throws it back in his face. Awful, so cruel, poor Arthur

I dont want to sound offensive, but I wonder about a social worker.
How can a person whose job is to protect children from harm be so gullible?

ET is manipulative, sure.
But to swallow her lies like a pelican? Come on!

This kind of job needs a person to be super watchful.
Every mistake might mean suffering of a child.

I think some heads should roll in social service departament.
Or a lawsuit might wake them up!

Perhaps the delay is because someone is changing her plea because she knows the game is well and truly up? TH isn’t backing up her stories anymore.

This is the trouble with manipulative people, they can and do manipulate people, situations, events, to suit their own agenda. And they’re very good at it! If they weren’t good at it then they wouldn’t have many people taking up friendships or relationships with them…

I am hopeful heads will roll in terms of social services involvement though. If only for the fact that Arthur’s bruising on his back was significant and that Drs stated that the bruising would not have disappeared within a day. However, SS missed this bruise completely…

But the point is such a worker must be able to detect manipulation! It is obvious that culprits are very cunning!

But they’re not. Hence why you will find out in a lot of cases, that SS knew of the family beforehand. All that will come of this will be an “investigation” and then you will get the “lesson have been learnt” line. It happens all the time. Is it right? No. But Arthur is not the first, nor will he be the last, child that this has happened to that SS were aware of.

You can change your plea at any time. From the day you’re charged until the last minute of the trial. Just the later you change your plea, the less merit you will get for it.

11:49KEY EVENT
Trial adjourned as barrister has covid symptoms
The jury is called into court.

Judge Wall explains that Bernard Richmond QC, lead defence counsel for Hughes, has shown symptoms of Covid-19 this morning.

He says he will be taking a test today but the results will not be back until this afternoon at the earliest.

In those circumstances Judge Wall adjourns the trial until tomorrow morning.

We will resume our coverage of the case then.

Thank you :)

You’re welcome :).
It’s hard to understand the justice system and court process for different countries, I get massively confused with USA cases.

It might mean that TH is also ill.
And half of the people attending this trial.

I believe Birmingham Childrens Services is in ‘special measures’ or at least it was. I don’t know if Solihull has a separate CS department.
Lots of social work departments are staffed with agency staff, which means there is a lack of consistency and continuity.

It speaks volumes that the social worker was given a chance to change her evidence, but didn’t. Instead she doubled down.

What does it mean "double down"?
English is a foreign language for me:)
