GUILTY UK - Brianna Ghey, 16, murdered in Culcheth Linear Park, Feb 2023 *2 teenagers charged*

I actually think the minimum sentences are reasonable - somebody I work with used to teach Eddie they are literally gobsmacked that he’s done this.

I do think that Scarlett was the leader behind the killing and I do not believe she will ever be released as she’s going to be dangerous for the rest of her life.

I used to work with children at a neighbouring PRU to the the Warrington one (I used to work with Stockport) I am very shocked from my experiences that Scarlet managed to get offered a place at Birchwood School after her poisoning a student at Culcheth High - in Stockport no mainstream would agree to having a child like that especially in Year 10.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Brianna’s family.
I wonder if Scarlett's mother being a local secondary teacher helped facilitate the move to Birchwood.

If what the DM has reported is correct, sounds like Birchwood was possibly not informed of the circumstances, and if they had been, she would not have been accepted as a student.

Yep.
My thoughts exactly.

Shame she didn't fight to get her into a special school / PRU with a specialism in social, emotional and mental health needs, where there would have been a chance of the teachers knowing what to do with her

This is soooo strange.

I read she changed schools repeatedly.

What was the purpose of this?
To me,
it looked like throwing a hot potato instead of the school dealing with the problem this student presented.

Was her giving drugs to other kids reported to Police and educational authorities?

Was Family Court notified?
Was home environment checked?
How come a 15 year old became a drug dealer?

She was in a special unit at Birchwood for vulnerable and troubled teens; that's where she and Brianna met. I can't imagine there wasn't a focus on social, emotional and mental health when both were in there for those issues. I imagine they told Birchwood SJ was in there for anxiety, self harm and eating disorder. That's exactly what Brianna struggled with. I imagine that's what drew them together. True empathy on Brianna's side, a snake's lure on SJ's. Brianna found a friend, SJ found prey.

Jenkinson is being held at Adel Beck Secure Children’s Home in Leeds, West Yorkshire, and is expected to stay there until she is 18 years old.

The home is made up of three eight-bed house units, making space for 24 youngsters. Photographs online show communal lounge areas, outdoor and indoor gym equipment and a chicken coop.

I hope she is kept away from the chickens.

The minimum sentences are actually longer than I expected; I was afraid they would get much less. Nothing is long enough for what they did to that poor girl.

I think stuff to do with animals, whether we're talking adults or children, tends to be a privilege you earn by showing the right pattern of behaviour. They don't just give violent offenders access to living creatures without any checks and balances.

We heard during the trial SJ had no prior contact with the police, isn't an incident like that something you would automatically involve them in?

ETA: It probably wouldn't have saved Brianna, just curious.

Rest in peace Brianna. A beautiful bright spark, a child I would be honoured to call my daughter.

I'm horrified these 2 were handed life which does not mean life.

"Psychologists call it

a folie-a-deux

when a shared madness drives two people to kill:

The bond that drove Brianna Ghey's killers to murder."

So glad these two vile creatures got decent sentences. I suspect she will never be released, as I imagine it's hard to rehabilitate those who want to bask in the glory of their crimes. However they are both young and rehabilitation could be possible as they mature, I just think it's unlikely in the case of SJ. Moo

This just makes me so bl**dy sad as I watch the local news and make dinner.
What is going on at the moment …. How many families are going to stand outside Manchester Crown Court and give statements ? It feels never ending and all of them utterly unfathomable wicked crimes.
Did these two really think they could do what they did and get away with it, outsmart the police when the evidence trail was as long as your arm, it was committed in a public place with CCTV outside shops, on the bus and ring doorbells ?
I really do give up.

The "getting away with it" part of their heavily premeditated murder plan was certainly very flawed from the get go. They chose to murder Warrington's most easily recognisable teenager in broad daylight on a Saturday afternoon in a public park and thought they'd have time to hide the body "under some logs" and remove flesh and an eye as souvenirs.

I hope the pair of them never see the light of day again.

Brianna Ghey was killed because she was trans, a judge ruled today, as she sentenced the two 16-year-old serial killer obsessives who murdered her to life in prison.

Scarlett Jenkinson and Eddie Ratcliffe were jailed on Friday for a minimum term of 22 years and 20 years respectively, as Jenkinson admitted for the first time that she did stab the teenager and 'enjoyed planning the murder'. If they are ever released, the killers will remain on licence for life.
Brianna Ghey WAS killed for being trans, judge rules

A fondness for horror films watched in her childhood bedroom developed into a sick fascination with serial killers, all further fuelled by footage of torture and murder that she sought out in the darkest recesses of the internet.
[snip]
And what makes Jenkinson’s story so hard to fathom is that, unlike so many other child murderers brought up in broken, dysfunctional families, she had a start in life that many would envy.
