The first mention of the camera across Heworth Road was the following paragraph, which is part of a long post by a former member of WS. The full post can be found back at Chapter#4/Page 46/post#913, dated 30/10/2019:-

"Yesterday the Cleveleland and North Yorkshire Cold Case Police Team provided knowledge in an online forum that there was a private house CCTV camera in operation in the house opposite to Claudias (Installed by occupants to deter vandalism) and they have a blurry but good enough shot of Claudia returning home from the unknown errand after she popped out and back again having finished work.
The image was at 15:05 on 18th March 2009 and shows her returning to her house at 46 Heworth Road.

The house was directly opposite Claudias
The camera was positioned inside of the window of the front room of the house."

This streetwalk screenshot is from Oct 2009 there is an object in the lounge window which wasnt there in 2008 it may be a camera but I cant get enough detail on it to be absolutely sure. Ive also included a wider shot taking in the next door property its not directly opposite Claudias house but it appears to have an outdoor mounted device this property has a number of vehicles parked both on the drive and the area leading down to the road so this camera may have the specs and range to cover quite a long range.

I read somewhere that the reason for lack of clarity of footage was due to condensation on the private property windows and so this suggests that we are looking at a cctv camera installed inside of the house and looking out. It would suggest that whilst this camera is capable of performing a very basic function, it is unlikely to provide good quality shots.

Sorry PJ, we have hundreds of threads active on a daily basis and we respond to hundreds of Alerts each day. We simply don't have enough Moderators to be able to do that.

@keep-it-real It does look like there is a device that looks like a camera on the side of the house that is next to the one where you show the item in the window. This house I believe now belongs to P_R and J_K. but did not at the time Claudia went missing. It is difficult to see if this device was left in place by new occupants due to tree foliage in shots over the years.

@Popejohn3 I wondered if it was the picture of the post-box that came from a Blog by someone called "Gone Girl" Perhaps we should check with Admin if it is ok to post from Google Maps? This would be an unverified website.

That picture indeed came from there but I checked the site gives permission as long as it’s for helping to find Claudia

As you suggest the condensation on the window may have been the reason for the blurr but we know the quality although blurry was good enough for NYP to identify Claudia at some distance.

Do you have any thoughts on where she went when said to have gone errand?

I believe they could not identify Claudia but decided it had to be her at that time when expected to return but nowhere good enough to show to public

I am sure as one can be the police and even more so the security services have much more surveillance footage then what they care to reveal to the public !
The billions of pixel cameras have been in operations for many years ... one day hey ?!

Distraught friends fear missing university chef Claudia Lawrence has been abducted

"Childminder Linda Chapman, 50, is a friend of Claudia’s from her local pub The Nag’s Head, only yards from her home in Heworth Road, York. Linda was walking to pick a child up from the nearby primary school when she saw Claudia walking back from her job at the University of York at about 3.10pm last Wednesday. This is the last confirmed sighting of her before she went missing.

Linda said: “It was Claudia who spotted me first. She shouted ‘hiya’ and waved enthusiastically at me. I said hello back and we went on our way. She seemed her usual happy, cheery self then she disappeared round the corner. I presumed she was going home from work or maybe popping into the pub because she lives close to it.

“It chills me to think I might have been the last person to see her".

My theory. E/Roll suggests LC lived along Melrosegate (same side as CL's walk home) near the junction with 4th Avenue. She would walk along, possibly with a pre-school kid or pram, towards East Parade, which she would cross then towards Heworth Rd which she would also cross in front of Costcutter before going left towards the school to collect a schoolkid. The question is did Claudia actually appear from Melrosegate or East Parade and I prefer the latter. Claudia shouted to her so they were several yards apart and finally Claudia disappeared round the corner towards home. Have a good look on Googlemaps at the grassy triangle where this happened. Linda would be between the 2 crossings she had to take whilst IMO Claudia was on the footpath between the pavements of E/Parade and Heworth Rd. You can clearly see the wall which, from where Linda stood, was the corner around which Claudia disappeared. Linda thought CL was coming home from work but I think CL may have been coming back from an errand along East Parade.

If you liken the missing case of Corrie McKeague to the 'how on earth did he get out of the horseshoe area of Bury even though there was CCTV' (that was later found to have gaps in it iirc) to this, then is it entirely possible that Claudia was missed by CCTV too and did venture out or into a car etc? Surely its possible?

Absolutely agree,it is very possible that Claudia left her property on eve of the 18th on foot or via a vehicle. Home when calls were either made or received. (taxi?)
