It sounds like someone was in a huff with Claudia
What kind of "Huff"? the kind, you may then want to drop someone into something, hook line and sinker? Seems immediately after that text, everything goes very quiet.

Was it established Claudia was working 12 days straight by her boss at the uni? I doubt it very much as Claudia was days away from taking her holiday for the easter half term, many had already returned home and uni was a little quite. However I am sure the uni and surrounding uni cctv cctv was monitored! especially noticeable if any vehicles returning in the evening or early hours should/would be picked up imo. The sports village was also getting built at the time I have read x

I'm referring to a huff where you don't respond to a text from a close friend. And let's not forget another persons huff when she is stood up for a pub meeting a few doors down from the friend's terraced house.

Great points. I've always been curious what emotional support was CL helping JK with the weekend before she disappeared?

Really interested in the genealogy stuff, and AI mentioned a few pages back. Surely both have to be a big part of future LE. Guess you have all read about the amazing genealogy work on the golden state killer.

True though that even if we identify the cigarette smoker, the Ford Focus, the Astra van, light man, dark man, we still don’t necessarily know what happened.

It is almost a paradox that while the case remains open it feels less likely to be solved than if it was closed and more case information was available.

Of course, even with the additional case info available there is no guarantee it would be solved.

Straw poll: god forbid you were ever in the parents/family/friends situation, would you rather know what happened and who did it but not be able to secure a conviction, or not know but with the possibility that one day you might, and be able to get that conviction?
Difficult question! I would like a conviction, but I don't want to wait for it until my end of life.

I wonder would cold case confirm the answer Vixey? Let’s just explore or. If JK was in a huff when did it start? We know CL and Jk were in the Nags on Sunday night - did it start then? Did something happen? Or did something occur on Tuesday -17th st Patrick’s ? Can JK throw any light on this herself ?

A friend in need....

I wonder if someone can help me out here, I’m confused.... So as I understand the facts, CL. Offered Jk a place to stay for around six months when Jks relationship broke down and she had no where to stay. As I understand it was virtually a freebie laid on by a frugal acquaintance. Charitable to say the least - if some did this for me I’d be forever grateful. And as I understand it Jk and CL became the closest best friends. So this is where I’m at a loss, CL texts Jk at 8.23pm on the 18th March 2009 - feeling upset because she has 12 early shifts meaning no late night fun for a couple of weeks and JK being the closest of friends doesn’t reply, ever??or is it, it’s for some reason not documented by NYP ?

Was there any need for a reply?
Its important to remember we dont have knowledge of the texts between Claudia and JK before that text so that text could have been the end of a longer conversation between them throughought the day.
Had JK offered Claudia some kind of invite in the up coming months that Claudia would not be able to accept and Claudia was letting her know the reason was due to having committed to working a 12 shift.

Good point @Vixey.. It might give us some clarity.
Was the 'friend' who she was helping with a problem a work colleague friend and the 12 straight shift was related to cover for that persons shifts.

I recall she had arranged a Mother's Day lunch possibly that weekend...it is much earlier in the threads- it was thought that she actually wasn't due to work 12 days straight. That led to speculation whether she sent thr text or someone else, but the time frame between the two last texts was very tight so potentially also unlikely. But nothing is impossible.

What l can't understand is why.

Whilst people do murder for jealousy, four people is unlikely. I can't think of any reason other than she knew about something she shouldn't have or threatened to tell about something. Do all of her experience, she strikes me as someone quite naive who didn't understand who she was dealing with.

The way you make it sound is though you have completely ruled out jealousy or a spur of the moment accident and favour an organised planned murder?

My gut has always said unplanned crime of passion, probably only one person committing the deed but others helping them get away with it. That said CL does seemed to have mixed with certain types who might night like ‘loose lips’.

Best to clarify the 'straight 12 shift' text with Cold Case if you are in contact with them. That way we can all be sure what is accurate.

Personally I dont think Claudia was naive.
I think she is an incredibly savvy person.

The previous Friday was Gold Cup day

I suppose it does sound like that. It's the lack of crime scene. Nothing out of place, nothing suspicious found in her house, except Claudia's mum alleged comment about the old lady slippers. If it was a drunken argument that got out of hand..where are the forensics?

In the mad panic something would have been missed. It's all so..clinical.

It’s clinical because I think it’s highly likely it happened elsewhere .

An interesting period which is never discussed and there really isn’t any evidence to form any picture of CLs activity then. It’s between her arriving home and when she calls her dad - some four and a half hours unaccounted for. Was she asleep? Did she usually nap in the afternoons?
Is there anything inside the house - in the bins or left out? Any trail - did she leave her clothes from the 18th in the wash bin ? Did she have a shower when she got in? Seems odd the sink is full but nothing else out of place.

Well...one of her boyfriends didn't agree

Missing chef Claudia Lawrence's only serious boyfriend breaks his silence

“Claudia is a kind, beautiful girl who was desperate to be loved,” says Dan. “There was a very romantic side to her, which made her naive about men, more naive than you’d expect for a woman of her age.

“She was quite gullible in fact. And that’s the concern – that she’s now come to harm because of a guy she might have fallen for.”
