I don't know, I don't know if there's ever been a photograph of the slippers JL referred to, or if they only existed in JL's imagination. Seems she'd only been to her daughters home once before!
There is an image of the slippers placed by the fire. They were a pair Suzy cooper said Claudia would not wear as granny slippers and were given to Claudia as a joke from her. Odd as Peter Lawrence and George said her slippers were placed neatly by the front door as though she had changed into her boots x

I think that just proves that it is trick of the light from the flash on the camera. What is interesting to me about your photograph is the slippers. Are these the same slippers that were beside the door and Claudia Mother had doubts that they belonged to her?
I would say yes - IIRC JL mentioned old-fashioned slippers close to the fireplace when she first went inside the house after CL’s disappearance.

Maybe I’m unusually untidy, but to me that first photo looks ‘showhome’ tidy, right down to the carefully placed remote controls and squared up pen on the table. The only thing missing is her phone next to the pen, freshly factory reset (cf Gareth Williams).

ETA this quote from Joan Lawrence:

“It was years later when I was shown photos of her living room and something looked very odd. Some old fashioned slippers were neatly placed by the hearth – I can’t imagine Claudia wearing that style, let alone putting them down so meticulously.

"It looked as though someone had gone in and tidied up. I would have immediately said something was amiss.”

And there lies the problem. We are offering views, opinion and suggestion based on what information is made available to the public. It is all sensored, except in the case of interview with friends featuring in documentaries etc.
Let’s be honest ( in the case of CCTV) it is all vetted, mostly strategic and I suspect the majority is doctored.
I simply cannot understand if a case is cold why they wouldn’t be more inclined to release footage from another camera or provide more detail.
The lengths WS individuals have gone to in order to investigate CL’s disappearance are simply incredible. Possibly putting the NYP to shame as we do not have their resources.

What would be interesting is to approach Martin Brunt to get a clearer picture of his investigation and who warmed him off and why. Would he be more open to a conversation after all these years?

I would love to know which car was parked in front of the SUV on the evening of the 18th. Has it been looked into, discounted or even ignored. We have no idea. There are so many points of interest in this case it drives you around the bend
Around June 2020 - I lived and breathed the Claudia Lawrance case. Every waking moment I’m mind jostled with the many conundrums. You get passed it. Yes I’ve spent many hours looking at suspects, scenarios etc. I’d love to talk to someone that has been in the thick of it for closure if nothing else. People get warned off because entwined in the case is danger. You cannot have the level of secrecy amongst those close without fear. Go poking about and fear will find you. I’ve no doubt.

Where did you find these photos?
On thread #9 @Pinkizzy, I was going back over things because I am new to the case, and I havent been able to absorb all the info at once

I think you may be getting yourself confused about the regularity of JL visiting CL. It was AFTER CL went missing that JL stopped going to Heworth Road. I recall seeing an interview where she said she had only been back once since CL went missing, this interview took place both on the road and at the house, which would of course, have been her second visit.

That is entirely possible @Bagpipes. But Claudia only lived there a short time before she went missing. I just cant imagine not knowing what would or would not be in my daughters new home, or what her slippers looked like.

CL 'left home' at the age of 16 or possibly 18. I'm sure someone will be able to put me right on that.
20 years later you wouldn't expect her mother to be aware of all of her belongings in the home, not to mention what may have been removed by the police.

Perhaps we need to read between the lines a little here. Comments made by her sister suggested that some family members did not approve of some of the people Claudia were involved with so Claudia stopped speaking to them about them.
Perhaps Claudia's had a closer relationship with her father.

I was expressing my opinion, I cant imagine me, not knowing what is in my own daughter's home, and what her slippers look like. Claudia bought the house in 2007 and went missing in 2009. Joan seemed to be saying, publicly, these were not her slippers, so the missing information would be, what do her slippers look like and where are they, and who put these slippers in the photograph, there.

Peter Lawrence tells Patrick Barkham about how he is coping with the endless wait for news about his missing daughter, Claudia

Earlier in his career, Lawrence was a police prosecutor. He understands the complexities of police work and if he has any dissatisfaction with the police, he will not share it.
Rereading this article by Patrick Barnam : where and why was there widespread speculation that a new boyfriend abducted Claudia ? And this was in spite of the fact her close friends insisted Claudia had no boyfriends at the time !We know this was not true .And there is no smoke without fire meaning the speculation ( about her being abducted by a new boyfriend) must have started IMO by someone in the know !
