Very interesting. Any views on what is? The odf thing about it is its long, thin shape - not an obvious shape for e.g. a storage box. Could be a planter, but a strange location.

I've had a look at a few other gravel pits on google maps to see if I can spot anything similar but I haven't seen anything obvious as yet. Any keen anglers here who might be able to shed light on it? It may not be anything related to fishing but if anyone's been fishing in gravel pits before, maybe they've seen one before

Could it be a pheasant feeder? Or wild fowl feeder/ trough?

Does anyone know what the concrete structure is when you first go onto street view from that link? If I move along the road even 1 click in either direction and then spin the view to where the “structure” is it’s no longer there?
Can you screengrab it and post it so we know what we’re looking for? The only substantial structure I see is what appears to be an old freight wagon (minus its wheels) sat in the woods.

On reflection, I think the most likely reason for the plastic sheet and tyres is a silage pit.

Might be a shallow compost area to provide worms for the anglers?

FWIW the cleared strip appears to correspond to the outline of a low timber structure which is visible on June 2011 Google Streetview (image attached). By July 2019 it has disappeared into undergrowth.

I’ve tried to sort of outline where I can see the structure and then the next image is when I go 1 click further along the road and spin the angle
Back around to where I see the structure

I haven’t read all the posts in the thread but is it possible that someone has fished something that belonged to Claudia out of this lake and that is what has led detectives there? They’ve definitely had some sort of tip off haven’t they but I think the fishing thing is logical due to it apparently being a spot used regularly by anglers.

Update:

Ground penetrating radar brought in, in the search for #Claudia Lawrence near #York

Police have today continued searching woods near two fishing lakes just eight miles from where Claudia lived in York.
A ground penetrating radar could be seen being used in a field close to one of ponds.

Claudia, of Heworth, York, was 35 when she was reported missing after failing to turn up for work at the University of York in March 2009.

I wonder where the scrap tyres came from.

It’s on y app.

the video is there! Hope this helps.

I could be mistaken, but the long strip they're searching with ground penetrating radar looks like the same long strip where the silage structure was

I’ve just looked at the video and images, but I cannot tell the difference. But it could be very likely.

That’s the area they’re ground penetrating, is that the same as the structure picture been posted into here. Looking at the images, it looks like there’s an entrance off a road to get into there here. So it’s accessible to drivers isn’t it with the looks of it.

There’s also a post for closing time of the lakes too, which I will attach, states no night fishing not even in the summer. Closes 10pm & no matches!

Maybe if this were a new case, but I feel in this case it is either intelligence-led or following the accidental discovery of some leading evidence.

From what I’ve read on a news link, anglers was told there fishing wouldn’t be affected by the environmental survey, but the next moment the lakes was blocked off by police. I think the lead to this new search come from the environmental survey IMO I think they’ve found something significant linked to Claudia’s case and that’s why they’re ground penetrating the area and searching it for her remains.
