It looks like the land is now owned by Iona Capital (through a slightly complex company and charge structure). Prior to that I assume it was a neighbouring farmer, and they did a deal with Iona at some point.

I don’t know the area, who would have the right to build a silage pit on the land? And surely it would have to be the person using the pit who put the body there, otherwise there was a risk that someone might of found it when he opened it/added to it. Was there a suspect who fits this bill?

There was sighting of a Light colored possible silver Ford Focus near the CL residency that was of interest near the time she went missing. When LE searched Kent for SE they did come across a burnt out Silver Ford Focus. That and the fact the perp had a job that allows for travel across the UK are the only theories could be a link but could be a coincidence. Just theories and opinions

How many silver ford focuses are there in this country do you think? A lot I'd wager. Thousands.

Haha yeah to say because he has light coloured focus so could be involved is crazy. Hell, my old parents own a silver focus - maybe it was them!!!

Thank you very much for the detailed info on what an environmental study does, very informative !

is it defiantly this silage trench which is being examined I’d have just thought rather then that specifically it’s the area as a whole which would be good to conceal a body in

There may be people working in various areas.

But some very good work here by Shadwell, showed that a very specific long narrow strip that they have cleared of undergrowth, and are now using ground penetrating equipment on, almost exactly matches the site of a long low narrow timber structure in 2011 Google photography. That structure was probably a silage pit, but not fully clear.

Quick flyby:

The big blue tent looks like a control centre for briefings and collection /examination of finds from the general search. If a small tent goes up anywhere along the cleared strip where they are now doing the geophysics that would suggest an excavation.

The mystery concrete structure looks to be an optical illusion resulting from the angle of sunlight falling on undergrowth.

Ref the ‘silage pit’ idea - in the April 2011 Streetview the field has been strimmed/mowed. My guess would be that the resulting biomass was being raked across the field into the trough before being covered - hence it ran the full length of the field.

Imo only I think the perpetrator of the Sarah Everard case may be more involved and this theorshouldn't be dismissed. Whilst there is nothing obvious on Google linking him to York. Hewas in the Territorial Army. Are there any TA links with York that would have given him local knowledge of Sand Hutton? His trial is coming up and new intel may have come from his direction connecting him to this case.

WC has pleaded guilty to abduction, rape and murder. There is no trial. Sentencing will be in September.

Exactly. His sentencing. The guy was an expert at tunnels and trenches and odd comings and goings in rural locations.

We'll see. Uncanny timing don't you think?

Maybe there is a very outside possibility that WC knows the people linked to the case and has knowledge of what happened (very tiny possibility but I guess you never know) and could be trading info, and I do remember hearing people speculating about an army officer at one point, but there has been so much speculation over the years, but I think it's doubtful and I really don't think he killed her. The blue tent is exciting but this could just be standard practise for privacy when working.

RSBM - I wonder if maybe this is less significant these days than it once might have been, with the rise in the usage of drones everywhere?

He is an expert at such locations in places that he knows. The tunnel complex in Kent was under property linked to his family IIRC. To my knowledge, he has no such connections to York, and therefore unlikely to have the detailed local knowledge that seems - from the outside - to be required to understand/use the location that is the current focus of the Claudia Lawrence enquiry.

So I there nothing happening at the ponds? Because I would think sinking a body in a pond was a safer bet than putting it in or under a silage pit, and also quicker to do it and not get seen.

  • #194
If those ponds are used frequently for fishing perhaps it was thought a body might be discovered easier in them? I don’t know. No idea how a killers mind works thankfully !

If you check out the drone footage it does look like there are divers in the pond at a point close to the track

anyone can apply for planning permission, even if they don't own the land. I think in this case, because the structure was low and unobstrusive and possibly it was related to the land use at the time, it was either allowed in that context of pp was granted. In some counties you can actually look up planning permission granted for specific addresses.

i imagine as well a lot of work is being done to see if links between any of the suspects known about and this particular site - for example talking to other anglers in the area about anyone they remember who were keen fishermen at this location who perhaps seemed to stop going there from march 2009 onwards

There was a pub called The Tanglewood (along A64) before you turn right to the DEFRA site and the Sand Hutton gravel pit. Claudia may have seen this pub and popped in on her way to see her mum or to meet someone

First time poster but a local to this area and very familiar with it.

I’ve never been sure of what the structure was actually for but I’m pretty certain it wasn’t there when Claudia went missing.

it was probably only 2/3 feet high and was a wooden frame covered in black tarp that were weighed down by tyres.

there was building/maintainence work going on by the ponds over the last week or so but no hint of police investigation until Tuesday when it all got cordoned off.

Perhaps they found something suspicious while that work was going on so called the police in…
