Crazy, the diversion from searches to 12 years ago. My thoughts are with the current searches

Is to just lazy journalism or is the search area only 6.4 Miles from 46 Heworth Road and not 8 Miles?

Also, only a 12 minute car trip.

This is easily checkable on Google Maps.
Depending on the time of day, this trip could have taken less time, particularly if early morning or late night.

File attached-Source Google Maps

The time and distance I have attached shows traffic that would make it 12 minutes now but in the early / late hours could be as short as a 10 minute drive.

I just wish the media would do little more research.

There’s too many traffic lights and crazy roundabouts on the journey to get their quicker- 12 minutes would be amazing, I would estimate it’s more like 20/25 minutes in a clear run with the lights. The A64 has traffic all night and there is a 24 hour garage very close to this junction which again is always relatively busy. On a busy summers day, I’m not joking, it could take an hour to get there. There are back road routes, but they add a lot of time as well.

I hope the police still have in their possession cctv and other footage looking at vehicles that where around the search area from 12 years ago ie 18/19 /20 2009
But having said this , I hope the anonymous tipsters do come back with more info just like the police have asked them to a few days ago !
Come on do the right thing and have some compassion… the family want Claudia.

Depends I suppose on what you are expecting the police to find. How many and what are the other lines of enquiry Wayne Fox says they are investing?
He just isnt giving 'anything' away.

At 20:00 Hours where there are no traffic delays Google is showing 11 minutes and there are only 4 roundabouts to navigate and so if this journey was taken in the witching hours I believe that the journey could be completed in 10 minutes.

I suspect there searches will mount to nothing. If there was anything to find I think they would have found something by now.

We can only wait and hope but at the very least the police can at least say what prompted them start such a search after they pack up and leave.

Having looked at this thread since it was announced of the search, I don't recall any mention of the very close proximity of a York University campus to the search site.
I have also done the Google journey from Claudia's home to this site and there are so many lay-byes and places that she could have been dumped that I wonder why the gravel pits could be the place.

Perhaps someone at the University Campus close to the gravel Pits also occasionally took meals at Claudia's cafeteria on the main campus and had an intimate knowledge of the gravel Pits?

Effectively they could have dropped her in their lunch break or at 12:10 when Claudias phone was said to have detached from the network.

The gravel Pits are also within the 9 Miles radius of York University that was stated as the phone radius.

I appreciate that you have google as a source, but honestly as a local this just isn’t true and I am confident other locals would agree- 12 minutes minimum in the witching hour- in the day the A64 is more like a car park or snail race.

Depends on what they find and if they deem it of forensic interest. Material, metal, bones it can take weeks to do all the necessary forensics.

Several lines of enquiry. They must have their hands full.
Is this info coming from one person pointing the finger at another person or at more than one persons.

The problem with these open cases is the police dont have to or are not able to disclose much after a search.

A few people are saying they don’t think the search will come to anything. Sadly I agree BUT….. when they were searching in a field for one of Fred West victims they were digging for weeks and when about to give up they found her. These things can take time. Keep faith

I'm in Hull but I absolutely despise going anywhere near York from a traffic perspective. Getting anywhere around there in 12 mins seems highly unlikely.

The centre not so much the outskirts surely !?

The lay-bys aren’t useful dumping grounds, they are used almost constantly and trucks park overnight in them, they are an extra section on the road (not behind bushes etc). The science campus next to the gravel pits isn’t anything to do with the Uni. I’m on holiday so don’t take my short responses as blunt, they aren’t meant to be- but the internet ain’t great here. There are two sets of fishing lakes within 15/20 minutes walk of each other (the gravel pits being one set)- next lane on the A64. My gut feeling is they should search both if it’s from a verbal tip off, if somethings been found in the environmental survey then that’s a whole different kettle of fish.

so....it was an anonymous tip off rather. than something spotted following a survey.......or an anonymous tip off following a survey

maybe they did tell the police more....eg, if you go here or there you'll find a backpack or her backpack...maybe they've found it and it either is or isn't Claudias and they've. not passed this on....maybe they dont know an exact location for either a body or possessions...or maybe its a wind up

6.07 miles - 12 minutes off peak easily doable via this route no need for the A64
