Dan it’s likely there’s a number of people who either know or have strong suspicions but have never voiced them.
Strong suspicions are not enough especially if you are close to them and ( a bit like me ) believe that sometimes police are not very discreet !

Ca

n I ask if the sixth person knows the 5th person is responsible IMO ?

tabak wasn’t. He had disappeared off. But there are cases like Huntley - tia sharp, the other one which I can picture but can’t think of her name - ransome woman
Tabak was, he even contacted the police from Holland to try to put the blame on the odd chap and they sent someone to interview him as they thought it was 'off'.

A relative of mine was a student living in Derwent College at York Uni in 2009. Derwent accommodation was near University Road, the route Claudia took to walk to/from the uni and the scene of the reported sighting of the couple arguing near the car. The uni was winding down for the Easter break so many students left the campus that week to go home, as planned. During the Easter period. Derwent accommodation was searched by police.
That doesnt give much comfort to any parent of a missing person who doesnt have a personal connection to someone in the policeforce. :-(
There was also the 72-hour golden period for tracing missing people, hampered by the delay before her absence had been noticed and reported to police.

Yes I remember reading the comments from the students at the uni, many had left and was unsure if it was worth putting posters up yet as so quite. Do you know when the easter half term started that year. JK said their holiday was booked for that date x

They have to play the long game to do whats right for the family, i.e. not risk compromising the investigation in any way.

Goodbye, dearest Holly by Kevin Wells was a real eye opener for me in that regard.

Yeh, I thought it was pretty standard procedure to not divulge everything to the family? In the same way the public is kept in the dark about some aspects of a case. It's risky to have everything out in the open, may spook potential suspects, etc...

Not to derail the thread but IIRC Tabak had indeed gone back to Holland but like you said contacted police to cast suspicion on the landlord. An officer was sent to talk to him in person and only then became suspicious because he was showing a bit too much interest in the case, specifically the forensic side of things.

Yes term ended on Friday 20th March.

Can anyone help me here please? In the linked article there is reference to the white Vauxhall Astra. I appreciate this isn’t new news but I don’t recognise what appears to be be a cctv image identifying it.

can anyone else make it out?
Police continuing hunt for missing Claudia Lawrence now drain north Yorkshire lake in bid for clues | Daily Mail Online

The bus cctv footage identified the Astra parked in the pavement as it turned up Heworth Road. The image the daily mail used appears to be the rear of a car…..

Yes the DM has been labelling this image incorrectly for years. It is the dark Ford Ranger which was parked near to CLs home on Heworth Rd. The white Astravan was parked on the opposite side of H Rd, much further towards the village.

They named the killer really quickly, didn't they? I remember thinking he was a helpful caretaker until he wasn't...
Yes-Ian Huntley gave the game away when interviewed on Sky news and a physiologist spotted his body language.
In my opinion, the culprit will have been interviewed by press and media but even though the body language exhibited for me has been exhibited, the police cannot make or proove a link.

there are three stages wed want to go through.....finding claudia, identifying those responsible and finding out the motive.

of course, ideally Claudias mother needs all three, but there have been so many rumours about claudia that the motive is. particularly important here...and why shed rather the perp was Halliwell rather than anyone else...as ive. said before, that way anything rumoured about claudia can have played no part
Or is it that if Halliwell was the culprit that there would be less of an inquest into CL relationships-I absolutely don't believe he is BTW.
It's bad enough to lose a child but then to have the media trawling all over that Childs behaviours. IMO

I’m going to post this without mentioning names and I’m sure this has been pointed out before in one of the numerous threads, BUT I was reading up on the case last night… The landlord of the NH had a key to Claudia’s house right?? 2 members of his bar staff walked with a limp. The CCTV guy seen around her house is also walking with a limp.

I’m not Sherlock Holmes and this could all be coincidence but could one of those staff members have had access to that key? Could it have been them sneaking around her house and considering entering, then backing out at the last minute? Just seems strange to me, I mean how many people are walking around that area with a limp?!

I strongly disagree - there are studies on just this very point - it depends on your moral compass - let’s just take (the fifth person) to coin a phrase - it will be eating her alive - and there’s no way out apart from death. She cannot reveal anything on the others or she will be running for the rest of her life and if she keeps her mouth shut - prison time for a very long time I’d guess - if she comes out of prison alive it will be when she’s old and wrinkly having missed out on the best years of her life

IMO the 5th person will have no remorse. Only remorse for themself.

The landlord may have had a key but when the Landlord and Peter searched the house, Peter was called because the landlord "Did not have a key". But you could be correct and no one wanted to admit having a key as that may make them a Prima Facia suspect. IMO

We also hear in this thread recently that CL had Chubb and not Yale locks fitted and if she did leave a door unlocked, the culprit either locked the doors after having made an easy entry, or had a key themselves.

Thank you Yozzer I could remember some of the Student Accom being searched but not which blocks these were.

The 5th person does NOT look/ resemble Claudia and by quoting the sighting you are giving credence to it .The witness pointed out that the lady fitted the description of Claudia .
I still maintain all mentioned friends of Claudia had nothing to do with her disappearance IMO
well, they could if their hair colour was the same (think hair dye), and if it was dark and from a distance. BUT, I agree it was not the 5th person at the roundabout (and I don't think it was CL either). I mean, why would the 5th person and another go on the same route that CL would have gone, surely you would go in the opposite direction?

I'm on the fence about the involvement of person 5.
