Another question: If Heworth is such a tight knit community where everyone knows everyone else's business, why was the response to showing the man in Limes Court/Heworth Place so poor? You would think Claudia was a gangster's moll and the folk of Heworth lived in the shadow of Al Capone. Is that unfair?

I wouldn’t say it was ‘tight knit’. Perhaps more so along Heworth Place? I lived a 5 minute walk from Claudia’s for 4 years. I didn’t know many neighbours in that time, I might not recognise someone from the cctv. There was also a high turnover of students. It is a nice and friendly area though. How long had she lived there?

Since November 2007. She made a good impact and was well known in Nags Head
Not much said about neighbours though??

Was Claudia as popular as reported? Nothing from neighbours / nothing from work???

You are right about students. They are transient by nature and not all, like you, stay in the same rental property year on year. I suppose I was thinking of the long standing locals and the patrons of the local hostelry. It seems most people knew Claudia, even just on nodding terms but not the man with the unusual gait. Yet it has been strongly hinted that he was a regular at the local pub.

Her next door but one neighbour Mr. Beresforde described her as "always very smiley, quite a happy woman".

Linda Chapman the neighbour who was the last to see her before she went missing said Claudia was "happy go lucky, as she is". 30 secs in on this video.

Claudia Lawrence investigation
http://www.northyorkshire.police.uk/13147

It is now six years since Claudia Lawrence disappeared without trace in York. Despite the intensive efforts of the police, the resolve of her heart-broken family and saturated media coverage, her sudden disappearance remains a mystery.

North Yorkshire Police's commitment and determination to solve the case and bring closure for Claudia's loved-ones, is undiminished by the passage of time.

Detective Superintendent Dai Malyn, head of the force's enhanced Major Crime Unit, is leading a comprehensive review of the original investigation.

This has been supported by national experts from other forces and agencies, including forensic specialists who recently completed a re-examination of Claudia's home on Heworth Road in York.

As a result of this work, Det Supt Malyn and his team have identified new lines of enquiry and fresh public appeals to pursue, as well as renewed appeals on previous key items of interest to the investigation.

Detective Chief Superintendent Simon Mason, Head of Crime for North Yorkshire Police, said: "The decision to focus and prioritise the efforts of the enhanced Major Crime Unit on this case and undertake a comprehensive review of the original investigation, is producing progressive results which we expect to continue over time."

What did that 81 year old man say about her?

Tommy Ward? Not sure if he commented on Claudia....oh...besides him witnessing her being dragged into a car and driven off, as reported in several newspapers at the time? We still don't know WHEN that happened do we? Apparently he did report it to police.

I am sure this has brought great comfort to Peter Lawrence in much the same way as Suzy Lamplugh's parents immersed themselves in the SL Trust. At least he can feel some good has come from the family's loss of their daughter and sister.
Definitely. And it's a really good law too. Should help many families who are stuck in limbo over financial practicalities

Here's Tommy Ward's interview and other neighbours on 18/3/2015:
Who is it? Newly released CCTV shows suspicious figure near Claudia's home | YorkMix

Eighty-one year old Thomas Ward knew Claudia by sight. “I know she knocked about with some girls – was it Thursday night they had drinks at the pub?”
Mr Ward said he had once witnessed someone bundle Claudia into their car, seemingly by force – and had reported what he had seen to police.
“I am hoping she’s still around,” he said. “But it’s one of those mysteries where the police can’t solve the case.”

[Given his age, it is highly likely this sighting took place on Heworth Road within sight of Tommy's home imo]

Also a neighbour opposite:
Sheila Richardson lives on the other side of Heworth Road to Claudia. But her long shifts as a nurse meant they kept different hours and never met. Having a daughter herself, Sheila feels great sympathy for Claudia’s parents. “It’s so hard to think that somebody has disappeared or died, and there are no real clues to pin anything down.

Local butcher:
Richard Hudson, who ran Hudson’s Butchers across the road from Claudia’s home. He didn’t know the then-35-year-old chef, but met some of her friends from her home town of Malton when he helped out at Castle Howard.

Also, commenting on the search of the house in Heworth Road near his and Claudia's homes, Tommy Ward in 22/4/2015:
Missing Claudia Lawrence's murder leads to three men being arrested | Daily Mail Online

It started off with one police car then a few more came. 'It was just around about 7am when everything started up. 'I was outside my house watching the world go by at the time. 'I haven't seen anyone arrested but a few weeks ago some sniffer dogs were there in the same house. We've had dogs a few times now. I don't know the person who lives there.'

Coincidentally, Tommy's house was sold in 2018 to the owner of the property searched in 2015 and his business partner. The house and access track next to the Nag's Head is now described as a building plot.

Lord of the manor
Stayed around for a reason then

Cctv images of silver Ford focus...could just be a witness to the possible dark figure/s?....however that dark/human outline/s may just be a wheelie bin against a wall?... in that light? Hard to tell...or then again it could be a victim/suspect/an acomplis and maybe NYP keen to show poi's/individuals that they will have been 'seen' by the driver of the focus? Ie if the driver is not directly linked. Hmm it's so hard to know if we as sleuthers are literally seeing things that aren't there!!! I know we can't all turn detectives (may lead to vigilante behaviour) but specific/intentional/directed updates from NYP would surely help this case. They MUST know a whole heap more than us but strategically keep us out for operational reasons? (Yes I know it's reactive not active). Although I hope this may be a cover story and surveillance still being carried out. One hopes!!! So frustrating!! In the McCan case incorrect witness sightings WERE updated and publically dismissed in order to update the case. This has not happened in this case.

@Kiri Some good points. The dark figure is definitely a person as you can see their legs are positioned apart. I have viewed the tree(s) in that Situ and they are too thin to be mistaken for a person.
I understand operational reasons for not revealing a particular piece of evidence but what the Police have to remember is that when they play with the perps to send out messages or flush them out, they also play with those well meaning people like ourselves, who are not necessarily all amateurs as some will have far more analytical experience than most if not all officers. I can also understand if they did not want to blow an undercover operators cover.
But after 10 years and two very credible senior police officers (Lucy Pope and Galloway) have left the force before their time because all they did was dare to suggest that Claudia had complex relationships and upset parents, one who was more savvy about these things than the other.
We now know what Galloway meant by complex.
If after 10 Years the Police cant or are held back from solving this, then we have to.
Here is the photo again as (in)conveniently it is hard to locate in Thread #2.
Having received analysis from other Sleuths, I now know that the second "Figure" (Orange and Green) is likely to be a tree. Figure 1 stands to the side of what we can see is a tree.

If you look at Google today you will note that these two very nice trees have been removed ???

Great post, I am seeing a fur hood like what would be on a Parka style coat. However, that is more a female thing and the person looks quite tall and gives me the impression of a male.
