A braking car screech noise though (followed by a thud) I think it would be enough to cause some people look out the window.
Is it known what day refuse collection was
refuse collection was on Tuesday but remember that the pub received deliveries from Drays at any time after 5. There wuld not be a screech at 22mph. The car may well have braked after hitting Claudia

If it was an accident wouldn't the driver say so, rather than dispose of the body, even if the driver was disqualified at the time, also if deliberate easy to say it was an accident, simply didn't see her, dark etc

Depends if they were threatened by the Lord of the manor. Would also explain why they kept quiet on the new Boyfriend for a year

I agree it's hard to believe she was ran over on a main road and nobody saw/heard anything and the driver chose to dispose of her rather than call for help. Stranger things have happened though so I keep an open mind. Perhaps the driver was married and implicated with CL? Perhaps they were under the influence of drugs/alcohol?

I personally feel the answer lies in her "complex" relationships though. A partner who found out CL had other partners as well as him, or a scorned woman who's husband had been getting "close" to CL. MOO

But why would the Lord of the Manor care, if he wanted rid of her then he would consider this a result wouldn't he, also someone else driving the car exonerats him

'The average pedestrian struck by a driver traveling at 20 mph has a 93 percent chance of surviving. For a 70-year-old, the chances are somewhat lower but still a robust 87 percent.'

And why would she be stood in the middle of the road in the dark, her front door is only a pavements width away from the passenger side of a car

Early hours-I hear noises at this time and put it down to refuse collection etc
Can I ask if would you dismiss the report of the scuffle in the alleyway as bin noise someone tending to their rubbish or trundling their black bin into the alley. I notice on the alleyway photos most properties bins were sited in alley

You are raising some good points here, Andyboy.

I have just checked the NY police website again especially the photos of the 'old style light colored Ford Focus seen braking'. I have tried to check the angles of these photos as best I can and it honestly seems to me that the car is braking well before the pub car park (opposite school tower at top of pictures I think). In fact I would go so far as to say it was braking BEFORE Claudia's house, maybe to pick somebody (her?) up? It's the right time frame for a lift to the university for a 6.00 am start.

So claudia is mowed down by a car which nobody notices, any blood or tissue loss is also unnoticed, driver of car either alone or with help of whoever picks up a now lifeless body, a literal dead weight which also no one notices, and the car with quite possibly significant dent damage and possible windscreen damage is driven where ever also unnoticed, stretches credibility a bit too far for me
... and then the mannny people, who lied or were withholding information - seems unthinkable for me as a reason, CL "disappeared". MOO

The fustrating thing is there appears no cctv footage from the house across the road to confirm she came out the front door. If she didnt leave throught the front door why would she leave through the back door and have to walk all the way round.
The car could be picking someone else up or merely braking because a cat is crossing the road or maybe there is a parked car or postmans van that its begining see and braking before indicating to overtake. The driver could realsise hes missed a turning as MajorLang has stated its speed was 22 mph. Lots of scenarios here.
The car does not show on the post office cctv or turning around and coming back the same way..
Its possible that there is side street off Heworth road that you can loop around without coming back down the street or going past the post office cctv. But has it hasnt been spotted enroute to univerity by cctv a question mark hangs over its onward route.

But then Claudia wasn't like that-Was she?
When there were girls from her hometown Malton in the Uni cafe, she didn't want to be seen as these girls didn't like her .... Reason?

We don't know for sure that the car WASN'T picked up on any or all of the CCTV cameras you mentioned... We only have the information provided by NYP. They may be preserving evidence from these cameras?

Unless they knew who Claudia was with. If Jen was working as a barmaid that night was Claudia being indiscreet with Jens partner and dis Suzy know this / suspect this? But then Claudia wasn't like that-Was she?
Except it is generally assumed Claudia was dead by Thursday evening but I take your point that SC wouldn't have known this.

Did JK stay over at the Nags that night or did she go home?
I don't think it has been made clear where she lived at that time. Was she living alone, had she moved in with her partner by that point or was it a mix of the 2? Not sure.

The day of the refuse collection was a key issue for me. No idea when it was but 2 mornings had gone when bins and evidence could have been removed before police were contacted.
