Yes important.The NH people told of this MAN telling them ( or showing them ?)about the backpack !They told him (NH ) to contact police .
Apparently he did because the camera ( in the last tv programme) focused on a patch of grass where supposedly the backpack was seen .

I am watching the programme you mention now it says the rucksack was spotted at 1.00pm interestingly the detective says this is a route Claudia might have taken to work. So the question still remains did she walk or was she given a lift.

Im looking at an ariel map of melrosegate bridge and I notice that there is what appears to be a single track road running beneath it. is there anyone on the forum that has local knowledge of the area as I have some questions
How ascessable is the road beneath the bridge to where Claudia and the male smoker were seen.
Where does that road lead (in both directions please)
Does this road also take you in the direction of the University or pass the spot that the backpack was found.
Is it possible that the male smoker in the hoodie joined Claudia on her walk to work but they taken an off the main road route
As the male has not been identified we do not know if she knew the male or not
So its possible that she may have been forced down the embankment where there may or may not have been a vehicle.
I found an article by YorkMix crime news reporting that on Jan 27th 2018 a teenage girl was assualted on the cycle path near Melrosegate by the flyover bridge. They were appealling for witnesses.
I havent been able to find any updated info on this incident. No discription or photofit of the alledged assailant.
It migh be useful to try and research on incidents like this against women in the Heworth York area in the last 15 years

We need to bear in mind that when the police show a clip for example the clip of the ‘dark’ person hesitating from stepping in the full glare of the lamppost all they would be asking is :is this you ?Do you know this person?
For all we know they could have yet another clip of the same person carrying someone on his shoulder further down the road!
Oh how I wish this was the case ?!

Exactly, through the back door into a dark alley then onto a pub car park where the cctv wasn't operative

If this happened on 19 th Cl name would not have occurred to anyone because she was not missed till the following day.

The cctv across the road cought cl returning home but this was not very clear image at all but the police think it had to be her time and place .Now a car /bus at the right moment would have concealed cl from this cctv

Once upon a long ago this used to be a railway line. When it was removed I have no idea but I believe it is now the cycle path you are referring to where the teenage girl's assault took place. I believe this path is easily accessible from numerous places along it's path but I've only used the postmentioned asset so don't quote me. Interestingly, as I did the "walk" on Google Earth from Claudia's place to the University, just before Melrosegate Bridge, I passed by a bus coming out of one of the side streets with "University" written as its destination and a bus stop just prior to the bridge. I wonder how early this bus runs and if it runs directly to the University. Just dotting 'i's and crossing 't's.

She posted a letter on the way home at Melrosegate Post Office I believe which is between Melrosegate Bridge and Hull Road, about opposite Alcuin Avenue.

I’m sure the police operate these lamppost cameras that have been in operation for many years sole purpose of which to catch untaxed cars and I’m guessing this is how and why police have even been able to search more than 1000 cars!
