I'd make it a 100k at least, police maybe in conjunction with the media, someone like the Yorkshire Post could easily afford it
I beleive real FEAR has stopped people coming forward.
No amount of money would make me put my own or my families safety in jeopardy..

1. To protect their own personal safety and that of their familes?
2. Its a red Herring reporting
If they were that worried why get involved at all

I'm sure plenty would agree with you, but if they don't dangle the carrot we will never know, the case has gone nowhere in 11 years, offer the money and see what happens, worst case scenario we are where we are now

Because they are decent and moral law abiding people ...living in a society thats changed a society where criminals have the power over communities and on the streets.

Worst case scenario is that another person or a member of their family disappears off the face of the earth.

Yeah but not moral enough to give the police details in person, maybe compile an e fit or something of use, I'm inclined to think they don't exist and this witness is connected to the case and got the police searching for a non existant man

Its Yorkshire not the wild west I'm sure the police wouldn't tell the suspects who the informer is

As the police seem to be no nearer making a significant breakthrough maybe its time for a new approach, appealing to people's basic decency to obtain information seems to have failed so why not appeal to a more basic desire, there greed, hm government has so far spent about 12 million on the madeleine mccann case, about 10 million more than Claudia's over roughly the same amount of time, there must be someone not directly involved in any potential wrongdoing that has significant information to break the case open I believe, but for whatever reason, fear or maybe misguided loyalty is keeping this information to themselves, I suspect the police have been down most roads trying for a breakthrough, so why not money, an offer of a very significant reward for information leading to a conviction may just be the thing that gets them talking, loyalty or fear is all very well but the thought of a big bag of cash might see there resolve broken, it may not work, but I think it's worth a shot, as whatever is being done now isn't working either
Great idea. If the POIs are truly the people responsible then they are already successful and not short of a bob or 2. The crimestoppers £10k reward wasn't much of a motivation to make them talk as it isn't a great deal of money to them. A much larger reward might be much more tempting, to perhaps someone wanting to get away from the group and start afresh? MOO

You are presuming that the suspects wouldn't have the means to find that out

If the police couldn't keep an informer annonymus there credibility would be gone forever, no one would ever tell them anything again

Im sure the suspect was keeping their involvement quiet, so only a select number of people will know, by process of elimination I'm sure they could work out who talked. MOO

I think someone knows, someone on the periphery maybe, it's human nature for people to brag about things, I can imagine after walking about free for 11 years there are one or two very smug people in or around heworth

no one seems to be telling them anything at the moment

Hence the need to offer the carrot then, got to try something different in my opinion

I'd be surprised if they walked about in the upper echelons of society, more likely its a intimidation thing I'd say

As a side and possibly irrelevant issue, the left handed smoker should he exist is probably right handed, I smoke with my left hand but am right handed in all other aspects, the reason for this is before the smoking ban was enforced I like others would be in a pub and our natural hand, my right hand would have a glass in it, so smoking would be done with my left hand, aiso right handed people use there strong hand to flick there lighter thus removing cigarette from mouth with left hand, smoking ban has been here 13 years but I for one still do it
Al the police pointed out that he smoked with his left hand not that he is left handed

Exactly, why contact the police to tell them about it but not tell them who you are, it's not an offence to be a witness
It could have been a passing motorist that lived miles and simply contacted police through crimestoppers.take it or leave it sort of thing

The sight of a mother or father with their own children watching PL in tears on TV ?
