I know DO had been interviewed at least once before by police. Remember he also gave her lifts to work. It was the 1st anniversary of the case and I think they revisited him (NYP confirmed this) and possibly leaned on him. Perhaps they fed him a few crumbs (a name or two?) to jog his memory. I think it was just before a Crimewatch was due to go live so NYP were under pressure to generate some fresh leads.
And yes, as keep-it-real states, the money!

I dont think it was because he was scared I think he found himself in a difficult position.

No I believe he didnt give them a name.. In my opinion I think he knew who it was and he thought revealing to the police that she had spent the night with a male friend that they would discover who it was.

I watched this all the way through. Leaving aside the inaccuracies

• CL's phone - it was not switched off at 12.10 am (night time) but 12.10 pm.
• She said police found brown hair dye when it was notably blonde and bleach that was found (maybe a bit of brown was mixed in).
• The driver of the white Astra van had come forward...no he has never come forward. The driver of the black Ford Ranger truck came forward and was eventually ruled out.

I would like to raise the following though as the video has jogged my memory of the original case:

• If the widely publicised photo of a younger Claudia with blonde hair presented an inaccurate image of her current appearance (as we are frequently told), should so much emphasis be placed on those two supposed 'sightings' on Melrosegate and by the university? This video reminds us that Peter L was not at all convinced by the University Road sighting at the time, and said the description of the woman did not sound like CL. This has since been suppressed (I suppose police don't wish to deter any further witnesses from coming forward).
• I understand that time and place were important to these sightings but the one that really interested me was the sighting of a man aged 55-65 wearing a mac. Described in the video as 'the 3rd witness sighting' 16m 45s) This man sounds very similar to the one seen outside Claudia's house on Thursday morning around 645-7.15am.
• But does anyone on here who has followed the case from when it was first aired on Crimewatch remember the presenter mentioning that a viewer had phoned in to say they had seen a woman who sounded like CL walking in the grounds of the university early morning, on a couple of occasions with an older man, grey hair and wore a mac? Is it me or is information disappearing from the internet? This video has jogged my memory of that sighting.
• Lastly, in a similar vein, I can remember at the time more information being released in the papers about the circumstances around the Ford Ranger 4x4 truck driver who came forward e.g. his reason for being there. It has gone! Data protection I suppose.

Well spotted mistakes on that podcast .
Re info of red truck I suppose not much point showing snippets of information if they are no longer valid or ticked off
Now the allyman is the opposite the police think he is still very much important to the investigation and they want him or others to come up with a name !

I notice a lot of talk regarding alley man here. I’m reading Gone at the moment and I notice it says in there that he was later CONFIRMED as being the landlord of those properties. That he was thoroughly checked out by police and then died soon after. I’ve read an article online saying the same thing.

However, the book was written/published in 2013 and since then everything seems to contradict the theory of the alleyman being an innocent landlord doing some early morning checks. The police themselves are still enquiring for information about him and released unseen CCTV footage of him in 2015 (I think).

So what’s the general consensus here regarding him? I personally think it is NOT the landlord and is indeed linked to Claudia’s disappearance. The alleyway ran directly behind her house right?? I’m definitely thinking he’s a stalker. Seen there on the night before AND the morning of her disappearance? If he’s not the abductor then at the very least I believe he is an accomplice/lookout.

But I believe that the alleyman morning and evening clips show different people walking into and returning from Heworth Place both morning and evening. So its possible the police are still seeking to identify one of these people.
The total lack of cctv from other cameras further into the Limes complex is suspicious it would would have shown us if any of these people entered/exited the alleyway, entered/exited a front door of one of the terraced houses in Heworth Place, walked further into or exited from the further into the limes complex, similarly if they parked or revisited a vehicle parked there.
Certainly an outstanding question on my notes are: Is there a connection between the alleyman and the light coloured ford focus seen breaking on Heworth road?
Was this vehicle parked either in Heworth place or the Limes Car park and thats why we are not being shown the footage

True. However the reason he gave would be of interest to us now but has since been wiped. Ever watched Cold Justice where they revisit cold cases and re-interview former suspects who were originally eliminated?
It's quite possible he may have been one of the arrested men who wasn't eventually charged and this is why the info was removed.

Possibly but unfortunately, the home of the person who I suspect is alley man isn't visible on google maps so I can't check out his car.
We do know MS had a light blue old Ford Focus which will have piqued NYP's interest in him.
