Sounds like it is being driven by the family; Look East spoke to Andy King from SULSAR at lunchtime. It was put to him more as a statement than a question about volunteers searching and it not being as simple as it sounded. AK replied that they have a tight- knit unit and don't know the capabilities or physical fitness of the volunteers, or what equipment they have. I know its a soundbite but no "we're grateful for the extra help" or anything.

It certainly seems to be and I do have serious doubts that an extra 30 members of the untrained public accompanying Sulsar will be of much use.
It must create a lot of organising, on the spot brief training, and supervising by trained searchers - therefore taking the trained away from searching themselves.
I think maybe in the very early days of Corrie going missing group public searches on open land may have been of some help, possibly.
I so hope that the 30 people they have recruited are from military, police or searching organisations. I'm not thinking of the effects of trauma here, but just professionalism in carrying out evidence led searches. Much can be destroyed inadvertently by careless
searchers. AJIMO.
