I always thought commanders had to serve a certain amount of time before they moved? Retirement maybe?

Just wanted to say massive kudos to cotswoldemmie for volunteering for the search - let's hope it finally brings some news for the family.

Missing airman Corrie Mckeague's mother on search hopes
7 minutes ago
The mother of a missing airman is leading a family search for her son, RAF serviceman Corrie Mckeague, in a Suffolk forest.

Nicola Urquart said the search would cover a huge area and even if it did not lead to her son being found, she has pledged to continue her campaign until she finds him.
She is funding the search from donations by the public and it is being carried out in conjunction with the Suffolk Lowland Search and Rescue Team.

The search, also involving over 70 members of the public, is covering an area of several square miles between RAF Honington, where Mr Mckeague was based, and Barton Mills.
The 23-year-old was last seen after he was escorted out of Flex nightclub in Bury St Edmunds town centre in the early hours of 24 September but the search is taking place close to his base at RAF Honington.

On the link is a brief video of Nicola at the search site. She mentions it is Kings Forest. Sorry I can't show that seperately, but click link to view.

Could be they do have journalists at the search (BBC?).

So thetford forest then? I think there will be people to give out refreshments and I'd imagine journalists will hang about. Perhaps the sulsar team are also included as members of the public

My mistake it's below thetford forest I think (my google maps is playing up!)

I struggled with G maps too, but I think you're right about its location south* of Thetford Forest
It's to the west of Honington. North Stow is in the northern part, West Stow 'Anglo Saxon Village' is on the southern periphery.

Interesting location. The B1106 runs right throug h it.
(I've just lost a post so apologies if it does post twice!)

* Have used 'south' as it appears south on a flat map.

The Kings Forest, interesting, I think someone posted earlier about that bit of forest. If you draw a triangle from BSE to Mildenhall to Honington it's within it.

Chill, everyone. Clearly no offence was intended whatsoever.

As for the "Corrie was in Mildenhall" thing, I assume the police based that on the phone pings rather than any physical sightings. They soon deduced the phone was on the bin lorry and Corrie wasn't, and it was never mentioned again.

Lots of people have worked really hard on this case and all contributions and ideas are welcome, everyone's just frustrated and desperate for some sort of breaking news. I hope there is news this weekend but if it's not to be perhaps we should ease off a little bit, spend some time with own families and friends, and get back on it in the new year.

:peace:

I've obviously missed something

We've got lots of posters with lots of ideas and theories and the answer is no doubt contained somewhere amongst them all, we can discuss them all obviously not everyone will have the same thoughts, that's only to be expected IMO and a not a bad thing as it helps us to keep us on track.

I wonder if we'll get any news from the searchets today

My guess would be the forestry plantation around North Stow and west of Honington. I seem to recall quite a few threads ago saying I thought this was somewhere that should be searched as it would be a good place to lose a body.

Sounds like you were on the button there. Well done !

Would be interesting to know if that is in a phone mast receiving area or not. Perhaps for some of the area, it will be maybe.
Edit. Looks like it may be just outside both mast areas. It looks to be just north of both the A1101 and the Lark.

The kings forest is right alongside mildenhall just above Barton mills and is quite big it's a popular dog walking site

There could be a repeater between then which would provide coverage from one of the masts

So it's not where I thought it was? Thanks for clarifying.
No idea why I'm having trouble with Google maps today, I'm usually good at reading them but it was hard to find this place on there.
Anyway, I know where you mean now. I can't delete my incorrect post above, will report it to get it removed.

It's hard not to check on the site daily let alone stay off till the new year. Those of us hoping its Awol think he may show for Christmas and Hogmanay. In fact we all hope that whatever we think happened.
Edit. Hopefully nothing will be found except maybe his phone.

I didn't make the connection. My maps are still playing up, are the lay bys alongside the kings forest? That's interesting

Checking back here every 15 minutes, anxiously awaiting an update! Fingers crossed that the searchers today found something!

  • #638
My Google maps indicates that the Kings Forest is near North Stow - is that right? East of Mildenhall.

That's where I thought it was too, pretty much equidistant Mildenhall/BM and Honington, although Google maps wasn't much help for me! Is it labelled on your map?
