The mental health issues are likely self-induced from drug abuse IMO, and this should be a whole life sentence.

I am not confident that in 38 years’ time we will have a parole board that would keep this guy in, they are usually minded to recommend release once the minimum term is served, as their decisions tend to show.

I think the Attorney General will make a referral for this being unduly lenient, and in my opinion it was.

Multiple victims, the murder victim under 18, the sword was ordered previously and therefore attack was premeditated, attacks on emergency services and a failure to plead guilty to murder. IMO the starting point was a whole life sentence and not 50 years that the judge began with, and then reduced to 40 for mental health considerations. His minimum sentence should have been closer to 50 years. On referral, we don’t tend to see huge increases but I hope it is referred and I hope at least we get this up to 44 years or so.

Hainault latest: Suspect in hospital after boy, 14, killed in sword attack

A boy, 14, has died after a man with a sword went on a rampage near Hainault Tube station in northeast London. Two police officers also suffered significant injuries, with two other people taken to hospital. A 36-year-old has been arrested - he too is in hospital.
