Update - missing woman Harshita Gottipati

We are continuing to appeal for the help of the public to trace a 38-year-old woman reported missing from the Millarston area of Paisley.

Harshita Gottipatti, who may also go by the name of Harshita Atei, left her home address in Main Road around 9.45am on Tuesday, 22 February, to go for a walk.

A short time later, around 10.15am, she was seen near to the Elderslie cycle track.

She is described as 5ft 8ins, of medium build, with long black hair and brown eyes. When last seen she was wearing a knee-length brown woollen coat, grey tracksuit bottoms, and blue trainers.

She was also wearing a distinctive pair of and black and white headphones (pictured wearing them).

Sergeant Will Thomson, of Police Paisley Police Station, said: "We are becoming concerned for Harshita’s well-being as it is completely out of character for her not to be in touch with her family.

“She is known to go for walks along nearby cycle paths so we are asking anyone out and about to keep an eye out for her. We are also asking people to check in sheds and out buildings in case she has sought shelter.”

Anyone who may have seen Harshita or who may know where she might be is urged to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 3386 of Tuesday, 22 February, 2022.

Google Maps

Here is a photo of the Elderslie Cyclepath. There seem to be quite a few lovely bike paths in the area.

Not saying this is the case here, but that looks a prime spot for any attempted rapist/mugger to lurk for an unsuspecting victim - especially one wearing earphones as HG was - as looks little used, no vehicle access, and thick undergrowth both sides.

Yes, my heart sank when I saw the photo of her wearing headphones. There is an unconfirmed sighting of Harshita around 6 hours after the last official sighting. Hopefully she is just having a bit of "alone time", but her disappearance is now becoming very worrying.

Yes, it looks horrifyingly like the classic place for a lone woman to be mugged/attacked/raped.

Lonely towpaths are never a good idea, particularly in winter when there aren't as many joggers, cyclists and dog walkers around.

....and if course "no suspicious circumstances" is police speak for suicide.

How awful. May she rest in peace.
