Normally, if someone is charged with a serious offence like murder, they would leave lesser offences on the file. Also as I said above perhaps they specified that at first arrest stage to allow them to search for evidence without warrants?

I thought POA was only given when the person was no longer able to look after their own affairs through illness etc? Why would a strong, independently wealthy, healthy person give someone else POA?

Snipped for focus

POAs are used in other circumstances as well. If there was a legal transaction that she couldn't be present for, if she had surgery as a "just in case." I'm sure there are other circumstances as well. Generally, these would be temporary, for a specific transaction or time period. Maybe he slipped in a permanent one for her to sign instead of a temporary.

I know it might sound a bit daft but I really think they should add another charge for killing Boris. At sentencing, it adds up to the totality of the offender, who might claim all kinds of reasons for killing Helen, like it happened accidentally or she attacked him for instance.

I doubt it Alyce, because a power of attorney wouldn't last after death.

It's possible that he was able to raise doubt as to whose money it was. Not sure. Perhaps they will add the charge in at a later date once they've finished their enquiries as it wasn't really relevant to getting him remanded.

Very true. My brain must be really fuddled today !
I suppose he could have argued that they had an agreement that he was allowed to access her funds if need be. A very flimsy argument but as he does seem to have been able to obtain the money ( if he had the password then its easy enough on line ) there is no one to disagree if he says that Helen was ok with this.
Perhaps ( hopefully ) they will throw the charge in at a later date - from the sounds of it, he wasn't just taking out a small amount of cash to pay the gas bill !

All the animal cruelty cases I saw dealt with as a court reporter were charges brought by the RSPCA, so I had to Google this.

This is from Wikipedia: "Under the Criminal Damage Act 1971, domestic animals can be classed as property that is capable of being "damaged or destroyed". A charge of criminal damage may be appropriate for the injury or death of an animal owned by someone other than the defendant, although prosecution under the Animal Welfare Act 2006 may also be appropriate."

Criminal damage would be a far lesser charge than offences against the person, so I presume that is off the radar, but presumably some evidence of what has happened to Boris will come up in the trial.

I don't often get to go on holiday :D But on the few occasions I have done, a deposit has been paid on booking with the balance due some short period before departure. I'm wondering if a large sum might have been used to pay the balance of the holiday IS went on alone?

First post for me from a long time lurker!

Awful case - thinking of Helen's family.

Several thoughts and lots of questions around the events:

It is reported that IS' TWO grown up children lived at the property too - with them not being arrested as well, how did Helen end up dead and concealed on the property without their knowledge? Where were they?

Why would there be confusion around the money? Was only a proportion of the cash taken and some left behind? Whose money was it anyway? Who knew about it and could have taken some?

Thinking about the note - could it have been an old one Helen left at some other time? Maybe around one of the anniversaries of her husbands death - just to say she needed some space to remember him alone and went to broad stairs to do so. IS kept the note and used it at this point?

The use of language around the discovery strikes me as odd - it wasn't announced as in a body had been found, it was remains believed to be human - this would suggest some difficulty either to access or examine, so I'm thinking along the lines of other members - concrete, dismemberment, other attempts to destroy. A body buried in the ground for 3 months would still clearly resemble a body at this stage.

Sorry if these things have already been mentioned - just a few thoughts rattling round...

RIP Helen - hope you are reunited with your husband and at peace.

Welcome to WS Mamadutton. I think you have succinctly encapsulated some excellent points there.

Definately. Will go to show planning of a cover up , less chance of him claiming accident. Plus Boris needs to have justice done as well, poor little dog x

Her family released a statement.

"We share with Helen's friends, neighbours and fans our shock, disbelief and sadness at the news of her tragic death. As a family we also stand in solidarity with those around the world who have also suffered loss under tragic circumstances. Helen was immensely witty and talented. We love her deeply and are immensely proud of her achievements. She is now at peace and we shall all miss her terribly. We wish to express our gratitude to the police as well as all those who supported us in the search for Helen in whatever way they could. In life, Helen was a very just person and we know that she would now wish, like us, for justice to be done."

I know a human has died and that is a terrible tragedy but, for me, to kill a harmless animal in cold blood is just pure evil.

A horrible thought but I wonder who died first, Helen or Boris?

I am going to presume Helen died first and Boris had to go as part of the cover up. Nobody would believe she'd go away without her beloved doggy who went everywhere with her.

Could be that Boris died during some sort of struggle and poor Helen had to witness it.

Boris is on the cover of her book about the death of her husband.

So terribly sad..... RIP Helen and Boris.

Police said they will not be commmenting on where exactly in the garden Helen was found or how Boris died.
