He can attempt to appeal but unless there's new evidence he won't be allowed to, right?

I suppose I'd better let him get convicted first.

Witness 'saw Helen'

The first witness for today, called by the defence, will be Marco Humphrey-Lahti. He is taking to the witness stand. Mr Humphrey-Lahti was seen by the police last year and provided them with statements, dated April 27 and May 28, relating to the last time he had seen Helen Bailey. Mr Humphrey-Lahti said he knew of Helen Bailey and could recognise her. He tells jurors: “April 11 is my anniversary with my partner. I saw Helen Bailey on the morning of this day. I left home between 9.30/10am in the morning to go to work. “I live closely to Baldock Road so within minutes I saw her.”

Yes and he will appeal I am certain.

Think he would need new evidence or misdirection etc.

The first witness for today is Marco Humphrey-Lahti, who says he saw Helen Bailey alive on the morning of April 11 - the day she disappeared

I wonder if he could appeal on the basis of he's clearly mental

Good morning all. Yesterday was the most amazing day and I'm still flabbergasted. I recently said WTTE that trials aren’t like those portrayed on TV but after Nick and Joe’s appearance yesterday, I now need to add, “but truth can be stranger than fiction”.

It will be interesting to see who turns up today - possibly his consultant surgeon Dr Simon Buczacki. If the defence want to wheel in a friend, the only one I know of is Christopher Priest, but they may save him for the mitigation phase prior to sentencing.

Basis for appeal... I was lying the last time but I won't lie this time in any way if I am honest.

Helen 'seen near fire station' with her dog

“I was in my van and where the Baldock Road house is there’s a turning where I live. “I turned out of where I live, turning left to go towards Royston, when I saw Helen Bailey walking along Baldock Road towards the fire station. “This is going towards Royston. She had her back to me initially but as I drove nearer I recognised Helen, she had her dog Boris on a lead. “As I drove up I recognised her and thought ‘Oh that’s Helen walking Boris’ as I came up towards her on my left hand side I glanced at her very briefly and thought ‘Oh yes that’s Helen’. “There were no doubts in my mind it was her. “Helen was wearing what looked like a grey raincoat.”

having a personaility disorder doesn't exculpate, otherwise our prisons would be half empty.

Anyway, finally we get evidence that a neighbour did see HB that morning.

But Boris "definitely" didn't get a walk that morning!

I'm not entirely sure how this fits with the latest defence story? Are we to assume that if Helen was out and walking Boris, then it was IS chatting with her friend online?

How is this any sort of defence?

I remember this evidence, right at the beginning, first week or two after Helen was declared * missing*. Then it seemed to fade away and I thought it must have been a mistake.

Tight timing though, given what we know about Helen's on line activity that day

Haha oooooh probably nearer 20% to be honest but I gave most things up when the kids came along :D Let's say I spent the 1990s (my 20s) in Edinburgh, Say no more :D

No they can't trace your mobile instantly to your address, like they could with a landline. The best the police can do is cell site triangulation but it's not pinpoint accurate, and it's not instant they need to go through a process of requesting your data from the provider. So when you're going to dump that body in Loch Lomond, switch your phone off before you go so they can't track your journey :P

It's interesting these days over here you have to give an ID to get even a prepay phone

Which means ultimately the number is linked to an address

Is it not the same in Ingerlund with all the terror regs?

It would just fit..... there was a short break in on line activity 9.30 - 9.50 ish, so she may have taken Boris for a quick stretch up the road

Helen's computer being used at the time she was seen

“I am sure it was Monday April 11.” Mr Humphrey-Lahti is now being cross examined by the prosecution. He is being led through searches on Helen’s iPad, and it is agreed that at 9.24am Helen was searching on her iPad, at 9.28am there is a search for Brocket Hall, and a search starts again at 10.06am. Her searches appear to run through to 10.36am.
