GUILTY UK - Joe McCann, multiple victims kidnapped & assaulted, April / May 2019

  • #201
He said he’d killed someone, good chance that is true given that these group of crimes as a whole are about as psychopathic as one could get.

Obviously there are murderers who have done as bad or worse but there is something quite unique about the sustained thought and action in this spree, and it’s absolutely sickening.

I posted the other day about how J McCann and his family were in the news in Manchester from a young age for terrorising their neighbourhood but J McCann seems to have been involved in robbery through adulthood.

One thing I noticed is that there is a double rapist called Derry McCann from the Bow area who looks very similar to J McCann and had some similarities in his crimes (multiple attacks/robbery with a knife. Both would then pretend the victim was one of their many girlfriends/wives). They are not brothers as far as I can tell but could be related. Was Derry McCann part of the traveller community in Bow?

Do you mean the "wedding-day rapist?" If so, then yes there are some startling similarities, though I'd expect at least the DM to have reported on those, given their breathless coverage of the original crimes.

I can supply a link if allowed, or you can search it.

There does seem to be a similarity in looks and inclinations, imo, speculation.
Is JM a known traveler, is DM?

"A bridegroom who raped a stranger hours before his wedding after being released on parole for a similar crime was sentenced to life imprisonment on Friday and must serve a minimum of nine years."

"He dragged her into Victoria Park in east London and subjected her to a two-hour ordeal, raping her three times, taunting and degrading her, playing “mind games” with her, and stealing her bra and mobile phone."
“In addition to the physical pain you set out to degrade and humiliate her in ways that are so cruel and gross that I will not identify them any further."

Bit more from yesterday.

Two boys tried to fight off an alleged serial rapist and rescue their friend who had been kidnapped, a court has heard.

[...]

"This guy stopped us, he said, 'Which one of you was calling my sister names and making threats to her?'," the boy said in a recorded interview.

"We said, 'We haven't, it was not us'. He told us to get into the car."

Mr McCann later told the boys to "hop out" and wait on the pavement "for five minutes", while the girl remained in the back seat of the car, the jury heard.

The witness said the defendant then told them he would stab them if they reported what had happened to police.

"He said he was keeping her hostage, then he drove off at 50mph," the boy said.

"[The girl] was just crying. We asked her if she was OK. We tried to get her out. My friend was trying to get the guy off her for at least two minutes."

The court heard a woman - who Mr McCann said was his grandmother - was in the front of the car at the time.

[...]

The boys later raised the alarm at a nearby shop, the court was told.

From yesterday. It seems like the evidence was in chronological order, so hopefully these are the last victims.

Later that day he pounced on the pensioner as she loaded her shopping into her car in Bury and raped her in her black Fiat Punto before forcing a 13-year old into the car with them, jurors were told.

They escaped at Knutsford Services on the M6 and McCann drove off, spotting the two 14-year-olds in Congleton 30 minutes later.

The girls froze as McCann threatened to stab them with a machete if they did not do what he said, it was claimed in court.

An interview recorded at Congleton Police Station of the girls was played to the jury today.

One said: "The man pulled up in his car in front of us and got out the driver's door and got out onto the street speaking to us.

Serial rape suspect 'threatened to chop up girl, 14, during abduction'

'The first thing he said was: ''I have been looking for you all day,'' which was a bit of a shock because we did not live in Congleton. He said we had been bullying his sister all day.

'The man said: ''You will have no glasses on your face and no teeth, I will chop you up,''.

'He told us to get into the back of the car or he would kill us basically.'

Asked by officers what they thought of McCann, one of the 14-year-olds said: 'He was not who he was making out to be basically.

'He was not taking us to see his sister and he was involved in something. He was repeatedly telling us to be quiet and shut up.'

At 6.44pm McCann pulled up at the Clayton Bypass, near Congleton to refuel the Punto. The girls explained how he gave them £20 and told them to pay.

When they told him they did not know how to pay for petrol, he left them in the car, asking them to find his phone battery and mind his cigarettes.

At the same time, police officers from the Cheshire and Manchester area were looking for McCann and the Fiat Punto.

McCann is accused of 37 charges including the rape of a child under 13, kidnap, and sexual assault concerning 11 alleged victims

PC Michael Jennings saw the car at a roundabout on the Clayton Bypass and pursued the vehicle until it crashed into a Mercedes.

In her evidence the same 14-year-old said: 'You could see the blue lights in the mirror. He collided with the car and we screamed. He told us to shut up.'

After the crash McCann got out of the car and ran off, jurors heard.

'He climbed over someone's garden fence. He went through their back garden. Everyone was asking where he went and pointed to his direction but by then he had gone,' the teenager continued.

'There were quite a lot of people there. There were residents of the houses and there were a few girls that we knew.'

Her friend who was in the car at the same time told how she tried to break out of the vehicle but he had put the child locks on the back doors.

The jury heard a petrol attendant who served the defendant in the Shell garage thought he appeared to be "angry, nervous and in a rush".

After leaving the garage, Mr McCann was spotted by a police patrol who were already on the look-out for the vehicle.

PC Michael Jennings saw two girls in the back and one of them appeared "terrified" while the other raised a hand to attract attention, the Old Bailey heard.

Dashcam footage of the subsequent police chase was played in court which showed the Fiat going the wrong way around a roundabout and colliding with a bronze Mercedes.

Despite being damaged it carried on at speeds of up to 60mph (97km/h) in a 40mph (97km/h) zone, the court was told.

Jurors heard Mr McCann then abandoned the car, leaving the two girls by the road, and was later seen on CCTV running past a man who was cleaning a driveway.

He was then seen riding a bicycle having swapped his T-shirt and later he got a taxi from a restaurant in Stoke, which was stopped by police.

At 20:40 BST, Mr McCann was seen running through a field, having fled from the taxi when he was challenged by an officer.

He was finally arrested after climbing a tree, the court has heard.

In a police interview played to a jury on Monday, the 71-year-old woman said she had finished shopping at Morrisons when McCann allegedly approached her car.

"He got into the passenger seat. I shouted, 'Get out, get out' and that is when he punched me in the face," she told Greater Manchester Police.

"He said, 'I don't want to do that, I have got a grandma'.

"He said he wanted a lift. He said, 'I don't want to hurt you. I have got a knife. I have killed somebody'."

The woman, who said she had been to church that morning, claimed she initially drove on the M66 motorway, but said she was made to switch seats with McCann as he wanted to buy cigarettes.

After they stopped at a service station, the alleged victim said she was driven to the entrance of an industrial estate.

"He got a bottle of wine out from my car and was drinking that while driving," the woman said.

"We got into this car park and he said, 'We'll have sex now whilst we are waiting'."

He said "I have killed somebody". That's what I have been worried about.

That 71 year old really helped the girl to escape. She deserves a medal.

Used toilet tissue was retrieved from the Watford home of a woman who was allegedly raped in her own bed by McCann on April 21.

Prosecutor Daniel Fugallo told jurors that DNA on the tissue was 'at least one billion times more likely' to have come from McCann than an unrelated person.

McCann's DNA was also identified on swabs taken from a woman who was allegedly snatched in Walthamstow, east London, and repeatedly raped on April 25.

Crime scene examiners went to the home in Greater Manchester where the defendant allegedly tied up a mother and abused her two children on May 5.

A Player's cigarette butt on the floor of the master bedroom was found to have McCann's DNA on it.

His saliva was also identified on the door of a Fiat car belonging to a 71-year-old woman who was allegedly abducted outside a Morrisons supermarket, the court heard.

A white vest top and jogging bottoms worn by McCann's next alleged victim - a 13-year-old girl - were also forensically linked to the defendant, according to agreed facts read in court.

Jurors were told that it was accepted by the defence that McCann was the man encountered by all the alleged victims.

A silver Ford S-Max car with false plates which McCann allegedly used to snatch two young women in London was never recovered by police.

I'm shocked:

Alleged serial rapist Joseph McCann has decided to attend his trial for the first time as it reached a "critical" point, jurors have heard.

[...]

"Obviously, the time has come because the prosecution has all but closed its case, if he wants to, the defendant can give evidence.

"Today, the court has received information that he does now wish to attend his trial.

"Today, the court has received information that he does now wish to attend his trial.

"That is something that cannot simply be arranged immediately and therefore we have been considering arrangements for that during the course of this morning."

The case is expected to resume on Tuesday at 11am."

Maximum disruption is his aim. I trust he will be well restrained in court. jmo of course

I rekcon he fancies himself as a Charles Bronson (UK's most notorious prisoner, not the US film star!). Bronson has never killed anyone but has spent well over 40 years in jail for violent offences and continuous attacks on inmates. I wouldn't be surprised if McCann kicks off in court, hope he's shackled.

Not sure if this means he's not going to court at all, or if he's just not giving evidence:

Prosecution has concluded its case against Joseph #McCann. The jury is told that he has “declined” to come to court to give evidence in his defence & is aware that the jury may take this into account when considering its verdicts.

  • #214
No defence evidence (no idea what they could possibly have, so no surprise).

The jury are told an “agreed fact” that #McCann has no convictions for homicide. The judge has now begun giving jury legal directions, then prosecution and defence will make closing speeches before judge sums up evidence.

I wonder why that 'agreed fact' re homicide was mentioned. Anything to do with JM mentioning he'd killed someone to a victim? Strange.

I guess so. He's definitely not in court:

Alleged serial rapist Joseph McCann has "declined to come to court" and will not be giving evidence at his Old Bailey trial, jurors told this morning. He faces a catalogue of alleged offences including rape, kidnap, and false imprisonment, against 11 women and children.

I do hope they look into unsolved murders- apparently it could be anyone- any age based on the rape victims

Mr Justice Edis said: "His absence from the trial is not evidence in the case. You must not infer from his absence that he is guilty of these offences.

"His decision not to give evidence is a separate matter and I will come to that later."

Jurors were also told they must consider the case "in an objective, calm way".

There's no way this monster can't be found guilty. What's the maximum he can get, anyone done the maths?
