Officers in Cumbernauld stopped cars and pedestrians in the search for missing woman Karen Stevenson last night.

They were speaking to locals in Cumbernauld, a week on from when Karen Stevenson was last seen. 53 cars and 20 pedestrians were stopped in and around Fleming Road between 1am and 4am on Saturday 26 February in the hope it would jog people's memories.

Sergeant Greig McKail said: “Karen’s family, including her two children, are extremely upset by her disappearance and just want to know she is safe and well and want her home as soon as possible. Extensive searches and enquiries have been carried out throughout the local area in an effort to trace her. These are continuing and we've been assisted by resources including specialist search advisors, and the dog unit. Officers have also been carrying out house to house enquiries and checking CCTV.

“Karen always stays close to home and has never been missing before. As time passes we're growing extremely concerned for her safety and wellbeing. I know our concern is shared by locals, and I would continue to urge anyone who thinks they may have seen her to get in touch as soon as possible. Any information, no matter how small, could help find her.

“If you have seen Karen since Sat 19 February, or have any information that may be relevant to our investigation please call 101 with reference 3369 of 19 February.

“Karen, if you read this appeal, please contact your family or the police so we know you are safe and well.”

Yes the report of the police station incident has concerned me. Im sure there would of got cctv of that. Karen was local, she would of likely known that the police station would be closed or not maned. This is happening everywhere in the UK now where smaller ones are closing. So it could even have been a last chance call for help from Karen on the small hope it would be open.

There was a possible (unconfirmed by police) sighting of a woman matching description down Cumbernauld fields near Castle Way around 6am the night she went missing .. sitting down. Police have been searching there too.

This area is large and lots of open field, woodlands, hills, gully’s and different terrain.

They also had another big re-search of the woods at Fleming yesterday

Yes all that has been confirmed by police is lift sighting cctv. I wonder how the 2:55 sighting was confirmed - whether this is from cctv at the police station?

I suppose the others the police are unable to “verify” which is why not in statements

Urgent police search for Scots mum last seen in shopping lift at 3am a week ago

I have been thinking about her t-shirt and her hand in the CCTV footage in the lift. In the police report, it says the T-shirt is cream, but in the picture it looks pink at the top, as does Karen’s hand. Could she be covering her mouth and nose as she has a bloody nose or cut mouth. It doesn’t tell us where she is, but may explain the unusual gesture.

yes, it would be useful if it was known exactly what the top was or looked like.
I thought it was unusual that her jacket was not zipped up - as it would have been freezing out, particularly at that time. Then again not everyone feels the cold the same way

Yes the hand over mouth looks very concerning....and colour of tshirt not being the cream. Without being negative speculation my first thoughts was an altercation or disagreement at home...the police dont need to necessarily tell us that info as she just needs to be safe and found. I dont think she's left for no reason ...its been a week and unless she is staying somewhere with someone safe i honestly think shes possibly going to be in woods or feilds...not alot of water a round some small lochs a few miles away x

The street has lots of homes my guess is cameras at the homes or doorbell camera or car cameras x

It looks like blood stain on tshirt zooming in can see it x

Maybe she is warming her hand with her breath?

Possibly
just the colour from top of tshirt to bottom changes so could be an injury maybe as her jacket is opened.

It was the hand position and arm position that I was thinking about overnight which made me think the T-shirt colour was off. I had a friend who used to get nosebleeds when stressed and it reminded me of that due to the arm position. I am hoping that she is with friends and will be found safe and well shortly.
I am new to commenting, so hope what I have written is ok.

Police search woodland in hunt for missing Cumbernauld woman

The police were also searching the streets the other side of her home today (Liddel etc)

Is that the clearest image I wonder? Her whole face covered and her hand up. looking at her T-shirt it does look like there is a discolouration.
Hopefully police release an image from the other 2:55 sighting

The use of the lift is interesting. I spent a lot of time in cumbernauld and I think over the years I have only taken the lift once when I had a heavy suitcase.

To me it looks like a light, so may she is taking a drag on a vape pen or its the flashlight from her phone that she is covering with her hand and holding up to her face as opposed to holding her face itself - if you do it with your own phone you would notice the pinkish colour. Just speculation though.

There are parts of the centre only accessible via the lifts after 6pm - I used to work in it years ago and this is still the case now - certain walkways and doorways are locked up overnight until 8am ish the next morning.

How bizarre. It almost sounds like the stories of people with sleep disorders that cause extreme sleep-walking, but this seems like a really long distance for that. The details about her being shy and not having social media make it even more unusual IMO - not someone you would necessarily expect to be having a 2 AM rendezvous of some sort. I also can’t imagine going on a walk in the middle of the night like this in any place other than a VERY urban area (e.g. London, NYC), and even then I would feel somewhat unsafe, but perhaps this is a cultural difference between the US (where I am) and the UK?
