Found Deceased UK - Karen Stevenson, 42, left home overnight, Seafar, Cumbernauld, 19 Feb 2022

I'm more reserved or shy, definitely introverted, and I prefer doing things at night because it means less socializing.

To me, though, her body language could also say that she feels uncomfortable. Maybe anxious. Biting nails? I don't think there's a light, I think it's just the coloring/contrast of the video. Hense them also mentioning a peach shirt that looks more pink in the image.

Is Karen covering her nose and mouth because of the smell in the lift? Just a few seconds of the moving-image CCTV footage from the lift would have answered all of our questions, but instead (as so often) we are left with a still-image which does nothing but raise questions.

I'm still surprised Karen entered the lift, when it appears that there are stairs available to use. At that time of night, the stairs would have seemed a safer option to me. However, as @tangerina (with local knowledge) points out "there are parts of the centre only accessible via the lifts after 6pm". Perhaps that is the case here.

The plea from friends for her to return home makes me think she is maybe suffering some kind of mental episode, or out on a bender? Hope she is just taking a time out and gets home soon. Moo

It is now 10 days, unless she is a known alcoholic - which has not been mooted - then I doubt she is on any 'bender' this long.

Could be she was depressed and suffered mental health problems, yes.

I am not sure from the CCTV image in lift we can be precise about her hand. She could have just been caught rubbing her nose with an itch, or maybe was crying, impossible to tell.

I thought maybe the lift was a way to get access thruway to where she was headed? ie because on different levels to where she was going.

Snipped by me for focus

The lift was a way to get to where she was headed. I was just surprised that she used it from a personal safety point of view.

That would be at least 5 hours by foot, unless taken in vehicle, so not thinking it is her.

Yes, I doubt it’s her, too. Only in case of a rendezvous it would be around 20 mins or so by car. It can be someone who doesn’t have any thread here, too. Sad news in any case.

From above:

On Tuesday evening cops were seen searching the wooded area around Allanfauld Road in Cumbernauld.

Police Scotland confirmed their presence was in relation to the search for Karen.

Units were also spotted near Karen's home in Seafar, walking from Fleming Road to Lennox Road.

Someone able to map it all out? Lairds Hill home to the shopping centre and to above.

The family of a woman reported missing from the Cumbernauld area have appealed for help from the public as efforts continue to locate her.

Karen Stevenson, 42, was last seen in the early hours of Sunday, 19 February. She left her home in the Lairds Hill area at Seafar shortly after midnight, waked towards the city centre and continued towards Muirfield Community Centre near Brown Road and Fleming Road around 2.55am, which is the last time she was seen.

Karen is described as 5ft 1ins, of slim build, with long brown hair. She was wearing a purple hooded jacket with a fur lined hood, cream long sleeve t-shirt with a graphic design, black leggings, and black ankle boots. She also may be carrying a small pink handbag, with metal studs and a chain strap.

In a statement released today, her family said: “This is completely unusual for Karen and she has never been missing before.

“The whole family are really worried and would like Karen to get in contact with anybody to let us know she is safe.

“If anyone has any information at all then please contact the police as soon as you can."

Inspector Susan Rae, of Cumbernauld Police Station, said: “Extensive searches and enquiries have been carried out throughout the local area in an effort to trace Karen.

“These are continuing and we've been assisted by resources including specialist search advisors, and the dog unit. Officers have also been carrying out house to house enquiries and checking CCTV.

“I know our concern is shared by locals, and I would continue to urge anyone who thinks they may have seen Karen to get in touch as soon as possible. Any information, no matter how small, could help find her.

“If you have seen Karen since Sat 19 February, or have any information that may be relevant to our investigation please call 101 with reference 3369 of 19 February.”

Do we know if Karen currently has a partner or is that her ex partner?

I really hope she is safe somewhere, if she was being helped by someone you think the police would have possibly been tipped off.

If she walked down from Fleming through the houses (different routes to go) I find it difficult or extremely unlucky that she hasn’t been captured on someone’s camera, lots of people have them now

I'm not sure if the man who is on social media is a current partner or ex i just know her close friends are commenting on his profile supporting him. I am going to try not post about this on here as there is a group now set up on another page to help as i am coming across wrong here, again sorry. Lets all hope Karen is found safe and sound. x

Friends of a woman missing from Cumbernauld believe she may have travelled to Edinburgh amid reports of a potential sighting in Leith.

Karen Stevenson was last seen in the early hours of the morning on Sunday, February 19 after leaving her home in the Lairds Hill area of the North Lanarkshire town.

The 42-year-old was spotted walking towards a community centre via Brown Road and Fleming Road at around 2:55am but has failed to make contact with concerned family members.

Police Scotland has since been made aware of a potential sighting of Karen at the capital’s Ocean Terminal shopping centre, though officers stress it remains “unconfirmed” at this time.

It comes just days after relatives issued a heartbreaking plea for any further information on her disappearance.
