This is my first post so I apologise in advance for any faux pas I may make.
I’ve lurked over the years but signed up so I could join in the discussion on this case. I honestly can’t believe the lack of national interest in this case. Especially when compared to the huge media coverage of Claudia Lawrence to which it bares striking resemblances.
There’s several possibilities
. She disappeared of her own accord - unlikely IMO that she would successfully manage to vanish with no resources available to her. How would she be sustaining herself after 2 yrs? It’s impossible to be earning and paying rent ‘on the books’ without being found by a police search. There’s a slim possibility she’s been earning cash in hand and paying all bills cash, but how likely is that?
. She took her own life - it’s very hard to take your own life in a way which conceals your body. This is largely an urban area and by no stretch is there any wilderness near by. There are densely wooded areas where you could hang yourself and not be found for some time, but I would argue these areas are not walking distance from her route. Could she have taken public transport to a remote area? Possible but it seems a stretch.
. She was came to harm at the hands of a stranger- this is possible, we’ve seen it before with the likes of Halliwell and Bellfield. There could be a person unknown who took the opportunity to abduct and harm Leah. It seems unlikely in daylight on a route used by commuters and school runs. But that didn’t stop Levi Bellfield abducting Milly Dowler from the street.
. She was harmed by someone she knows- statistically this is the most likely outcome. The majority of women who are killed are killed by a current or ex partner. I don’t understand why the police are seemingly uninterested in Mr X. Do they have rock solid intelligence which proves without a doubt he couldn’t be involved? Does that extend to his family? Are his alibis undeniable, such as he was in hospital having treatment at the time, or are they based on the word of others? Or do the police have another reason not to press Mr X, if he is involved in drugs is he being protected as part of a larger county lines investigation?
The strange behaviour surrounding her phone and lying about where she’s going and who she’s seeing in the run up to her disappearance make me lean towards the latter theory. But I wouldn’t discount the possibility of a stranger abduction.
All obviously speculation and my layperson ramblings.
