It would be interesting to know what sort of bus ticket he purchased, if it was just a single ticket then it would show that he never intended to return on the same day!!!

I've just found out about Liam from a shared post on facebook and from what I've now read on this thread I don't have a good feeling unfortunately. As other posters have already pointed out it's almost unheard of for a teenager to knowingly go anywhere without their phone.

Unless someone is hiding Liam which doesn't seem feasible I think he has chosen to go off and probably not for a good reason. Am I right that there is a lot of woodland in the areas the police think he might have gone to? Imo possibly where the search efforts should be concentrated

I hope there is positive news soon

Teenagers upgrade phones fairly regularly

Maybe he had a back up phone which he has with him?

If that is the case I hope whoever he's communicating with does the right thing and lets his parents know he's safe even if for some reason he doesn't want to go home

6ft 4 isn't unusual for a 16 year old at all. i work with plenty and have one of my own at home!

police will have plenty of info....whats in backpack, whats on the phone etc. fact that they are doing door to door and visiting the bus station is making me more worried for him
i dont see the issue with him going to the bus station? what do you mean there?
i dont know that they have gone door to door - certainly havent read that anywhere.
we do know that he bought lucozade jaffa cakes and a bar of chocolate after he bought a burger and prior to getting on the bus.
he might have been meeting someone at the arts fair or the football that was going on at the crathes slug road juntion.
hopefully the searching tomorrow will cover a wider area.
hopefully the police have more clues and they find whats happened to Liam.

I am hoping that the forest searches are done soon - there is an area called fetteresso forest and cowie water that are along the slug road - which is just at where he got off the bus and across road from crathes castle.
we do not know why he did not have his phone. we do not know what suspicions anyone would have had.
there is a lot of forest area - its not massive vast that it would take weeks to search but it would need to be meticulous in case he met something and there is also a crime scene to investigate.

IMO if you are meeting someone you would take your phone incase the other person is running late or cancels on you. The only reason I can think of for not having it would be if your were in such a rush as you were running late and honestly forgot it.

Perhaps he planned on running away or causing harm to himself in some way. However usually a teen would leave some form of note or communication that would be their intention and there may be warning signs with friends and family. Given they are saying it is so out of character it may not be a harm to self situation.

What type of football game was going on there? Was it a big event?

I know from other cases I've followed on here that searching woodland is very difficult and it can be very easy to miss someone even in a small area, I'm sure the police will know that and do it thoroughly

IMO it would be quite a coincidence to forget your phone on the day that soemthing bad happens to you, unless Liam's a teen who isn't constantly attached to his phone, it might not be unusual, has this been mentioned in any of the information releaesed so far?

So far none of Liam's habits have been mentioned around the use of his cell phone nor any social media he may have.

The major search for missing Aberdeen 16-year-old Liam Smith has been continuing today in the Crathes and Banchory areas, described as “vast” and including “challenging terrain”. He was last seen last Saturday getting the 202 bus.

One I remember is the case of the American lady in Scotland she was found a long time after she went missing. Whilst people were walking passed where she was for months.

Susan McLean was her name.

Remains confirmed as missing tourist

Susan McLean's case is the most amazing thread on here in my opinion, I urge you all to read the whole thing from start to finish when you have an hour or two spare. It's a very unusual case in terms of the physical dedication shown by Websleuths members and will restore your faith in humanity after some of the horror we read on this site.

I agree. Her friends and others dedication to finding her was outstanding.

I was also involved in the Alison Baden-Clay case she went missing from Brisbane, Australia. In fact I started the first thread on her. We had many Websleuthers who were Doctors, Lawyers, Engineers etc contributing(some who lived locally). Plus many members including myself attended her husbands trial. This is the thing about this site it brings many people together with a common goal.

Also from yesterday:

Officers have also been speaking to drivers and passengers on the Stagecoach 202 Aberdeen to Banchory bus Liam boarded last Saturday before he was reported missing.

These matrix boards have been posted outside Banchory urging people to get in touch. Despite efforts over the weekend, he has still not been found.

It's now over a week since Liam Smith was last seen outside Union Square; 9 days ago he boarded a 202 bus and it’s believed he is now somewhere in Deeside. If you think you might have any info, no matter how small or, in your eyes, unimportant, please contact the number below.
