Yes the forensic team took his jeans from his home a couple of days after he was arrested and traces of grass were later found on the fabric

It's a shame they've not been able to work out which area of grass it was from, not sure if it's been mentioned whether they tried. I'd love to know the results of things like that and soil samples from his shoes.

Absolutely. That’s when you hope the composition of clay or dirt (for example) in the soil would hone in on a particular area. I don’t believe it was ever described in greater detail on the court reports we had as readers. Ha, my sister is a soil testing lab dr!

Yes the forensic team took his jeans from his home a couple of days after he was arrested and traces of grass were later found on the fabric. I think that implied it was from visit two to the park; ie the rape. On his third visit and when he was stalking the streets again I believe he was wearing jogging bottoms
PR also indicated he washed them because they were wet but we will never know how wet or if wet from the weather or from being close to a river because he washed them. MOO

Ah yes, and his joggers had a wet patch on the knee after his third visit; caught on CCTV walking with said wet patch on joggers in the street. Trying to find link

Are you local/local to the Newland area? I only ask as I've been wondering about people's awareness of PRs previous crimes at the time they were happening. I have read on here that people in the local communites knew there was a perv on the loose and there was even an e-fit. I never heard anything about it so wondered if this was true and I missed it or if its bad press reporting.

I’m not local to Newland @tigerowl but a friend was at the time and knew one group who he’d done something to. It was never discussed with me prior to this case, then we he got arrested they told me what had happened to their friends. Whether those friends had chatted to her prior to that I’m not sure. I lived on Vicky Dock at the time and a little older then that friend.....the rare time I went out on Newland where they lived or to a house party there I felt a bit of a granny compared to them all  like you, I never saw the efit either.

I wonder for those who reported prior to Libby, were they told not to speak about it?
Also I think he’d have definitely flashed/masturbated at a lot more women and went unreported. I remember being about 13 in East Park and a few times getting flashed/masturbated at, as a group we shouted and laughed and jeered so if they were after the shock factor they didn’t get it. Now I’m a more mature lady (!) I honestly believe these type of crimes need to be taken so seriously from the off.

It is also his local park,he flew his drone there, so any soil or plant samples could be explained by previous visits.
It is probable that he took his children for a walk in the park in the days after Libby went missing.

Everyone reacts differently. I was once in a convenience store at the ATM machine. They were next to the restrooms. I saw something out of the corner of my eye and looked over. There was a man shaking his penis at me. I raised an eyebrow and told him to put that thing away because no one wanted to see it. Hindsight being 20/20, I should have reported him right away. I think back and regret it. But it was my reaction at the time. I am a more mature person as well now and hope it never happens again but if so I hope I do better. MOO
Edit by me.

I thought there might have been more reporting on the trial. Alot of the articles seem to be based on HDM

Further; if he has grass knee on jeans from second visit and wet knee on joggers from third... why on knees AGAIN?? I appreciate this has already been discussed, but this is (another) sticking point for me in his defence that he ‘left her’, and left her alive.

I know what you mean, it would have been good if they had found a trace of the river mud from the bank which would probably be a very specific chemical makeup, particle size and shape etc but it probably was frozen that night

I remember when Libby was first found a couple of us reached out to a soil/water specialist. I forget her name and I cancelled my Twitter. She indicated if LE asked she would be happy to help. I think someone sent the info to LE but I forget.
There has been an amazing effort on this thread by everyone. Locals, the best I have seen on any of the threads I watch. You are all amazing!

And if police had taken them for analysis - BINGO! But... they never did.

Yeah I forget which WS super sleuther posted the specialist name but several of us tweeted her. The specialist was even away on vacation and responded. If the super sleuther is still here, please accept my apologies for forgetting and not given you proper credit. :)

I feel like so many abuse cases could be kept at bay with better use of technology. It’s insane how grainy cctv is it drives me nuts on here, remember spider cam for example. Someone needs to innovate cctv. Also I wonder is there a market for an app that is always running in the background of your phone which logs gps info and records in the background, which the information can only accessed with a death certificate or in court. It would make people feel safer and justice would more often be served, I’m a guy and I often forget how scary it can be being a female. I wonder would something like that make people feel safer. Anyway I don’t want to go off topic, just a thought

I agree. I have learned a lot in my few years here. I have given all my passwords to two trusted people. I have set my iPhone with an emergency SOS where I can send a signal to some contacts that I am in trouble. They may not be able to save me but they will know exactly where I was when trouble found me. I think everyone should use whatever technology is available to them!

What a noble offering also!! Just by more men offering the intelligence and understanding you have would go a long way to change things!! Regarding an App, completely see how it would help, (and I’d add hopefully before reaching court or death!) but equally there are a lot of the population who I’m sure would find that an invasion of their privacy further than they would be comfortable with. Tough one. I’d jump at the offer! Ha, wasn’t there a suggestion from someone here on an earlier thread saying they’d have us all tagged!

How interesting! There are a few of us here that are big fans of Patricia Wiltshire, if you've heard of her. From Wiki:

Professor Patricia Wiltshire is a forensic ecologist, botanist and palynologist.[1] She has been consulted by police forces and industry in almost 300 investigations in several countries[2] and has been instrumental in solving several high-profile crimes, including the killing of Sarah Payne, Millie Dowler, the cold case of Christopher Laverack, the Soham murders, and the Ipswich serial murders.[3]

My 3 children and I all have our location shared with each other.
That way we can track where everyone is.
It's a very useful tool, especially when my youngest 'wild child' used to stay away for the night with friends, I could see who he was staying with.
When my daughter drives back home late at night I always just have a look to see if she's back safely.
My kids always carry their phones with them and are happy that we can all track each other.
