8.06pm: There has been a brief but worrying flashpoint in north Enfield - Hertford Road - with apparent attempts at vigilantism, reports Paul Lewis.

It was only a minor skirmish, but a potentially bad sign for community relations. Police, who have flooded the streets, were quickly on the scene when about 70 men started chasing local youths.

I wouldn't mention their ethnicity, but it seemed to be relevant. The men were white - in their 30s and 40s - and shouting that they wanted to get the "blacks" and "pakis". Lots of them seemed drunk. One man being held back by police shouted: "They're rats, they mugged my Auntie the other night."

"And there was kids there as young as 12,13," he says. "There was also the ubiquitous spotters on their bikes - basically going round checking where the bobbies were and coming back and letting the rest of them know."

2236: More on the incident in the Bootle area of Merseyside - a man has been arrested on suspicion of vehicle theft after allegedly using a dumper truck to break into a Post Office. Only shutters were damaged, police say.

2236: A police station in Nottingham has been firebombed by a group of 30 to 40 men, according to Nottinghamshire Police. No injuries were reported.

You know someone should show these SOBs clips of London being bombed in WW2. They are lucky to have such a beautiful city and country. They could be under Nazi rule right now!!! When I think of the sacrifices the generation before them made,and these cry babies can't have a bigger flat screen TV so they destroy property?!!! I realize this started out over a man beig shot,but now it appears its a haves vs have nots thing. I guarentee this will be happening here in the not so distant future.
