Lynn McPaul: Police visit park and graveyard as search for missing Dundee woman enters second week

Police have carried out searches at a Dundee park and graveyard as efforts to find missing woman Lynn McPaul enter a second week.

The 45-year-old has not been seen since leaving her home on Perth Road at 11.40pm last Sunday (January 23).

Officers have previously focused their efforts on areas close to where she lives in the West End, including Strawberry Bank and Magdalen Green.

But over the weekend the search was widened to include Balgay Park and Balgay Cemetery.

Officers looking in undergrowth
Several officers were spotted searching in and around the undergrowth near to the park’s entrance.

One dog walker told The Courier: “I’d just gone beyond the bandstand at the park and I saw the officers in the undergrowth on the path close to the cemetery entrance.

“The officers were in dark clothing and some of the police were at the top of embankment and the other officers were trawling through the bushes.

“I wasn’t sure at first what was going on but another dog walker said they were searching for the woman that went missing.

Police searching areas near headstones
“The police started searching some of the areas around the headstones in the graveyard.

“I came back into the park at around 3.30pm and never saw the police again.”
It comes after officers released an image of the style of jacket Lynn was wearing when she went missing.

Inspector Keith Anderson of Downfield police station previously urged residents living near Strawberry Bank and Richmond Terrace to check their outbuildings.
He said: “Lynn’s family are extremely concerned for her and we are providing them with support and keeping them fully informed of our search activity.

“Alongside the search activity, we are continuing with conventional police inquiries to try and establish Lynn’s movements since she was last seen on Sunday.

“I would please ask anyone with information which has not yet been passed to police to get in touch urgently.

“Anyone with information is asked to call Police Scotland via 101, quoting reference number 0157 of January 24.”

The missing report was very quick, maybe she had communicated with someone that she was going to harm herself. Hope she is just taking some time out. Moo

The family of missing Dundee woman Lynn McPaul have issued a statement – nearly two weeks after she was last seen.

The 45-year-old has not been in touch with anyone since leaving her home on Perth Road at 11.40pm on Sunday January 23.

Since then, police have been carrying out searches in areas close to where she lives in the West End, including Strawberry Bank and Magdalen Green.

[...]

Now, Lynn’s family have issued a statement as they seek answers around her disappearance.

The statement, issued through Police Scotland, said: “Lynn is a home-loving mum, with a tight-knit group of friends.

“She is missed terribly by all her family and friends, who are bewildered by her unexpected disappearance.

“She is friendly and approachable and would go out of her way to help others.

“Please, if anyone has seen her or has information on her whereabouts, contact Police Scotland.”

[...]

Police have been reviewing CCTV and are continuing to ask anyone who may have private footage from the area to get in touch.

Inspector Keith Anderson said: “Lynn’s family are becoming increasingly concerned as this is completely out of character, and they just want her to get in touch so they know she is safe.

“We are using all the resources available to us to try to find Lynn, including officers conducting house-to-house enquiries, specialist search teams, and our local Police Scotland Youth Volunteers (PSYV) who are assisting with leaflets..."

Police in Dundee have reissued an appeal for help for missing woman Lynn McPaul.

The 45-year-old vanished after leaving her home on the Perth Road on Sunday January 23.

Officers have searched a number of locations across the city including undergrowth in the city’s Balgay Park and Balgay Cemetery.

Both locations are less than a mile from where the 45-year-old was last seen at about 11.40pm on the evening she disappeared...

After reviewing CCTV footage, officers initially focussed their searches in locations close to the property including Strawberry Bank and Magdalen Green

Speaking to Dundee Live today, Inspector Keith Anderson, who is leading the search, said: “Lynn has been missing for over two weeks now and our enquiries to trace her are ongoing.

"We remain grateful to the public who have responded to our appeals and shared them on social media.

"We also remain in regular contact with Lynn’s family during what is a very difficult time for them."

Media are reporting the body of a woman was found near Newport-on-Tay. Circumstances not suspicious. This might line up with the bridge...
Body of woman pulled from water near Newport-on-Tay

I hope it is not her - it is desperately sad - awaiting further reports.
Just an update to say that this person has been identified and it was not Lynn (it was another woman who also had gone missing from Dundee).
