If I were a member of the jury (or the victim’s family) I’d be furious. Let’s hope they set aside 2-week max for the retrial with fewer psychologists contradicting each other and fewer pseudo witnesses (JMOO)

"Halted for legal reasons"

What does it exactly mean?
What kind of legal reasons?

This was the trial schedule on Monday. It appears to have been something which arose during or after the witness's testimony, because no witnesses heard since then and there were legal submissions with reporting restrictions.

I imagine it could be something the jury heard in evidence that prejudiced her case, and if so it wouldn't be reported because it could prejudice a future trial too. That's my guess.

Still no news about the new trial. Any idea why that might be @Tortoise ?

I've been checking for updates too, can't find anything. Perhaps they are waiting for a hearing with the judge to set the trial date? I hope it's not too far away, like next year.

I've just found out about this case yesterday via Alyce as following case as above.

I don't understand why there is a trial.
Didn't this person confess?
Wasn't there a plea deal of some kind?

  • #299
Was it that she would have confessed to manslaughter, but the prosecution pushed to convict on murder? But then the first trial collapsed for legal reasons. Upthread it was suggested that some information might have come before the jury that made a fair trial impossible, hence the upcoming retrial.

It looks like that the prosecution didn’t accept her diminished responsibility plea.
