So the field close to the bench with what looks like tyre tracks etc is private land..?

Thank you, Jeremy.

In that case, if NB did fall into the river and hasn’t got lodged against something there’s the horrendous possibility she’s out at sea. God, how heartbreaking!
Locals have said there is weir that a person wouldn't get through.

It could also be that they have data that it tried to pair with other devices in the following days, even with a searchers phone. The company may be able to access where the watch tried to pair. Just my opinion/thoughts.
Good point. I wonder if they can see if the Fitbit tried to pair with any other phone in the vicinity after the 27th jan or even if that’s possible.

Nicola Bulley: Police focus on river path in search for missing mum

I think it’s clear from this that she was not seen on CCTV exiting by Rowanwater or by allotment lane so the only other exit would the be the one she entered on at Garstang road/Blackpool lane imo.

Snipped for clarity :

In an update the force said: "We can say with confidence that by reviewing CCTV, Nicola has not left the field during the key times via Rowanwater, either through the site itself or via the piece of land at the side.
"Also, we can say that she did not return from the fields along Allotment Lane or via the path at the rear of the Grapes pub on to Garstang Road.
"Our inquiries now focus on the river path which leads from the fields back to Garstang Road - for that we need drivers and cyclists who travelled that way on the morning of 27 January to make contact."

Local knowledge seems to be an important factor. There was a suggestion that some anglers were familiar with this part of the River and called it the "deep hole" or something like that.

Anglers know their water. Listen to them.

Combine this with the fact that the underwater search bloke said bodies don't usually go far and one wonders if the area immediately around there has been searched 100% thoroughly. Not just "we had a look" but divers, body drag grapnels and sonar. Sonar is good but how do you distinguish a piece of submerged wood from a body?

It seems to me that a very intensive search is needed in the immediate area and it also worth finding some anglers who know the place and talking to them.

Why search ten miles of river when the general idea is that the body will not have gone far?

Surely intensive searching in a small area would be more appropriate.

All of the above is my opinion only.

We know the Fitbit hadn’t synchronised to the phone since the Tuesday prior. But maybe the evidence they have found is her Fitbit, which might tell them quite a bit.

I think Mr Faulding’s change of tune today may be because police have shared data gleaned from NB’s phone and Fitbit with him. The information could possibly include when her Fitbit stopped pinging/talking to the phone (gone out of range) and all sorts of other data like heart rate etc. This will have been stored by Fitbit regardless of when it was last synced (within say 30 days) and the police would have had to have applied to Fitbit to do that which takes a little time. This makes it more understandable about why they are so sure about what’s likely to have happened to her, along with all the information they will have gathered from the phone. Just because he’s an expert on underwater sonar, doesn’t make him an expert on all aspects of missing persons enquiries, especially tech and digital ones

Ok so she starts off on walk at 8.43am after dropping her two children off at school.
7 mins later meets another dog walker who then leaves Nicola via river path.
8.53 and she sends an email to her boss at Exclusively Mortgages. <modsnip> Must have taken her at least 1 min to type it up? So she has been pretty busy for the duration of the walk so far.
7 mins later she dials into the Teams work meeting.
I wonder who out there might know she is going to be on her headphones listening in to a meeting … out on a dog walk. It does, after all, make her pretty vulnerable. And I’m not trying to point any fingers at family members who are accounted for, as we know.
<modsnip>

Looking at her Strava and her regular walk with Willow, it seems she spent about around an hour on the walk, which would probably mean she’d return home by about 10:00 I’d imagine. Then again, she may have planned to run errands immediately after the walk.

Sorry, I'm getting bit lost with the posts, what must be ? What is the question ? :)
this bit
Our enquiries now focus on the river path which leads from the fields back to Garstang Road

I'm not sure of that myself. I took it to mean from river path to field, to Allotment Lane to Garstang Road. What I didn't know is there is a path through The Grapes pub to Garstang Road. I read it earlier but unfortunately I didn't make a note of the link. But I thought the Grapes was on Blackpool Lane. I don't have local knowledge unfortunately.
The path they are talking about is the river path towards garstang road the one that NB used to access the route initially. All other routes have been ruled out including the path at the rear of the grapes pub onto garstang road.IMO

I remember all that "ping" info in the Corrie dustbin lorry case. They followed his phone by the pings even though I'm sure it was off or crushed.
I was here for that too. Another tragic case and understandably Corrie's mum just couldn't accept he might go to sleep in that skip-bin.

When you look online it underlines just how many people have drowned trying to save a dog from a river just in recent times. Most pet owners would enter the water if they thought their pet dog was in trouble and often the dog will swim to safety.

Willow wasn’t in the water though..

Yes that is correct imo and if it is that path, I would be amazed if any perp managed to get her back to a waiting car on a main road. IMO. Unless they hid her as @kittythehare said earlier and then moved her at a later date. IMO.

That makes perfect sense.
They got it FAST too.

I don't think they have the fitbit. They describe it as light blue as part of her clothing and one of the items to be looked out for in order to help ID her, or where she is. They may well have its data, as they have the phone - just not the fitbit itself. It depends what kind she has.

I think you could probably follow the river upstream, and there's The Oaks, and there appears to be a track I think.

But I think they are meaning the one you refer to. Like .... did she put her phone down, distract the dog, and just walk out of there the way she came ...

IMO I initially thought that leaving the phone on Teams was a way to highlight where she could be fine if she had wanted to disappear (from life) but this contrasts with the committed family unit they seem to have been and the fact that the phone was apparently found in the bushes, not on the bench. But why would it be found in the bushes if she suddenly thought she needed to look / lean over the river?

Does anyone know if you can continue walking along the river under the bridge at Garstang road/Blackpool lane to the other side without exiting up to the road? See plan to show what I mean.
The river path is at the same level as the Iron foot bridge which is connected to the road bridge. So you can't go under the bridge on Garstang Road/Blackpool Lane. You would have turn left or and then cross the road I think.

How would she have got though the gate?
When a dog sees their owner in trouble they’ll fight furiously and jump/climb gates/fences you wouldn’t think possible.
