Exactly what I was thinking. I have vaped for 10 years but I was a heavy smoker before and when stressed even heavier.
The “good?” Thing about vapes is you can sometimes be sneaky (bathroom breaks) not that I would know anything about that

I'm not sure the court system can incorporate the needs of junkie jurors though. :D

I see no reason to change my avatar from Harry Enfield character William Ulsterman as I never really had a reason to have it as this in the first place!
If you do don’t forget to make a “legitimate and peaceful” request.

"two five-minute 'smoke breaks' will take place during each day, one in the morning and one in the afternoon"

Smoke breaks? Sorta funny they still call them that.
Known as "comfort stops" in the coach tours industry. :)

If those jurors request cheddar cheese and pineapple on a STECK then it had better be made available to them!

Maybe those who need the bathroom a lot. I have a weak bladder when I can’t vape, very strange that ;)

4:01pm

Legal teams, members of the public and press, and Lucy Letby have returned to court, along with the trial judge.

4:03pm

The trial judge informs the jurors they can go home for today, and will resume deliberations at 10.30am.
The jurors are urged not to discuss the case with anyone, including each other, until they have returned to the deliberation room tomorrow.

Actually I think I would just stick several nicotine patches on and give in to chewed fingers

The whole fact that defendants have to sit so far away in UK courts is mindblowing to me. I watched this video explaining the court room experience for defendants and it was very interesting! Sharing in case anyone wants to check it out:

Oh wow

Just started listening to the latest podcast - this line right after their usual introductions -

"We'll outline his [the judge's] reminder that although experts were instructed for both the prosecution and the defence, only the prosecution called their experts to give evidence"

Episode 45, The jury retires

In this episode Caroline and Liz explain that the jury has now been sent out to consider their verdicts. They were asked to begin their deliberations after listening to the judge sum up the case for more than four days.

LOL that's exactly the part I stopped and rewound to make sure I'd heard correctly. That stops all that speculation then!

Although poor plumber hearing that, thinking "Hey I'm an expert too!"

The only expert was Mario

Begs the question as to why they would not call their expert/experts. Did they initially intend to? We will hopefully find out after the verdict.

There's quite a lot of news coverage today. Can't imagine what it will be like when the verdicts come in.

But treating Experts as Prosecution's or Defence's is misleading IMO.

Experts represent medical knowledge.

OK, they were called by Prosecution, but then it is Prosecution that charges.

Does Defence need to bring other Experts?
But why?
Would they represent "another medicine" ?

In fact, I remember saying that we would not see other experts -
and was jumped on ;)

Defence's task is to "find holes" in Prosecution's evidence.

And create resonable doubt.

I am against treating Experts instrumentally.

Indeed. They have been keeping their power dry. Perhaps wisely.

I got the feeling that there is no break for lunch. Only the 2 cigarette breaks
I was assuming that they were on top of lunch and breaks!

I think it's really significant that the defence had their own expert witnesses lined up but didn't call any - apart from the plumber, obvs. I'm trying to think of any circumstances under which that that it is not utterly terrible for the defence but having difficulty.

It would be interesting to know whether this was a change of tack by the defence or that their experts decided they were having nothing to do with them any more? I suspect that perhaps her own evidence had the effect of totally undermining what they were going to say.
