Gordon Semple, 59, left home April 1 (Friday) to attend his place of work in Westminster. The last confirmed sighting of Gordon was on that day in the London Bridge area around 15:00 hours. He is a serving police constable but his disappearance is not believed to be connected to his line of work.

PC Gordon Semple, 59, from Greenhithe, had a noon meeting at the five-star Shangri La hotel at The Shard in London on Friday. He was then seen at 3pm on nearby Southwark Street.

PC Semple was in plain-clothes, wearing brown shoes, dark trousers and a lilac shirt. He is 5ft 10in, white with medium build and shaved head.

PC Gordon Semple was on duty on Friday 1st April. His role is a specialist one that routinely involves work with external partners and agencies and it is not uncommon for much of his time to be spent away from the office working in plain clothes. He is a serving police constable based on Westminster Borough, working in the anti-social behaviour team based within Westminster City Council.

Semple, of Greenhithe, Kent, attended a meeting at the Shangri La hotel in the central London skyscraper shortly before he went missing.

"We have released CCTV images of Gordon's last known sighting on Friday, 1 April at 3pm in Great Guildford Street, which runs between Southwark Street and Union Street.

We have now established Gordon left the Shard at about 12.30pm, and I would like to know where he went between 12.30pm and 3pm, when he was seen on the CCTV.

"We are yet to identify if Gordon met with anyone in that area, or was merely passing through.

"He can be seen looking at his mobile telephone, but not making or receiving a call."

He seems quite old for a serving cop. Most seem to take their pensions in their early to mid 50s and if not fully retiring they often go into other jobs or return to the police force in a civilian role.

Daily mail reported him as being an Anti Social Behaviour Officer - I've worked with a few of these officers and most have been older serving officers. The role seems to be a way for them to continue being on the front line albeit in a more relaxed role

Thank you. I wasn't aware of that. I believe that the retirement age is to be raised to 60 soon to bring the police into line with the majority of other public sector workers.

Human remains have been found by detectives searching for missing Westminster police officer Gordon Semple.

A 49-year-old man was arrested at a property in Southwark on suspicion of murder and is in police custody.

This is sad. I have seen his details being circulated on Missing Scotlands facebook all week as he was from Inverness. I've got the vibe this man that was arrested was known to him.

At least one report says he had no children, though whether there's a wife, ex-wife or girlfriend in the background there's no indication. Perhaps in his case, the police really were his family. He can't have been far off retiring either. It's strange how often an officer is killed just before they are due to retire.

Daily mail are making quite a bit out of the fact he was gay - guessing they are trying to insinuate this was a meet up gone wrong.
