He said: “I’m the father of Becky Watts now known as Bristol’s angel.
“We will never understand why this has happened but we now believe we are victims in a plot of hatred and greed.
“This despicable act of evil can never be forgiven or forgotten.
“When the news came our entire world collapsed.
“I can’t describe the searing pain and anguish Anjie and I felt when Becky was found.
“The only way I can describe it is like being cast off a cliff into despair.”
Darren said Matthews and Hoare sat and watched him descend into madness.
He said: “It truly would have been much easier to have taken us all, than have to cope with the aftermath of this crime.”

“My mum was in hospital when Becky was born by Caesarian section and she was the first to hold her.
“Becky was screaming the place down.
“People always ask ‘how are you?’ and I don’t know what to say. My beautiful, loving , loyal daughter has been murdered.
“Every day is a living nightmare and for some reason after her death she was mutilated.
“It’s like the worst of all horror movies.
“It just goes round and round in my mind all the time. It is just never ending.
“I don’t want to remember her like this but the thought of her being mutilated is in my mind all the time.”
Becky was murdered on her brother’s birthday, the court heard.
Mum Tanya said: “How is he ever going to celebrate his birthday again?”

“I keep thinking about Becky, her situation, how she came to be dead and I am furious.
“I have so many questions to ask.”
Tanya saw Becky’s body at the mortuary.
She said: “I know the mortuary staff worked really hard to give us this opportunity.
“I was frightened about what I would see. After she had been treated in such a barbaric way I didn’t think I could go through with it.
“In the end my mum and I saw Becky together. It was a very private moment and I don’t want to share it.
“The image of Becky with a little bandage around her wrist to cover up the cuts haunts me.
“I have never seen my mum cry so much.
“Becky’s big day should have been her wedding and not her funeral.
“She has been robbed of her future.”
