Lawyers & judge now discussing if Nathan Matthews' crimes are so serious he should be given whole life sentence ie. not eligible for parole

Excluding multiple murderers there are 8 people currently serving a whole life tariff, life sentence in this country. Will Matthews be 9th?

Who reckons this is when his "mental health problems begin" in preparation for a request to move to a hospital

I think it's safe to say his mental health problems began long long ago ... I dont think he needs to play act it :(

[h=3]Should Nathan Matthews ever be released from jail?[/h]Defence barrister Adam Vaitilingam QC is now addressing the court on behalf of Nathan Matthews.
He is discussing with the judge whether Matthews sentence should mean he is never freed from jail.
Mr Vaitilingam said: “Only whole life orders have been applied to the most horrific and exceptional cases.
“There are only eight people in the country in that category who are not multiple killers.”

Mr Vaitilingam said: “The dismemberment of the body is clearly a highly aggravating feature of the case.”
The judge Mr Justice Dingemans said Matthews was also “sitting there watching the family’s agony.”

Yet strangers, here and in court, who never knew Becky or her family are in tears. Says it all!

[h=3]'Awful tragedy' that Becky and Nathan were related[/h]Matthews and Hoare have never previously been in trouble with the police - both had clean records.
The judge said it was “an awful tragedy” that Becky and Matthews were from the same family.

Only because they hadn't been caught!! Benefit fraud, no tv licence, threats to kill Becky previously by NM, texts relating to kidnapping teenage girls, theft of a cheque..... not to mention the claim regarding NM's behaviour in a mortuary. Is he really trying to suggest they were decent people before all of this?!!

Matthews' lawyer arguing against whole life tariff and say that his crime does not meet the level required for that sentence

Wouldn't like to be his lawyer

Unfortunately if his lawyer doesn't put up a good argument against the whole life tariff that could alone be grounds for a sentencing appeal. Tough job.

Whole life sentences are rare - reserved for the most notorious murderers such as Ian Brady and Yorkshire Ripper Peter Sutcliffe.

And a few of those included dismemberment. On top of the "he's a psycho" report I hope he gets whole life.

This wasn't considered in the case of Karen Buckley. Her body was similarly destroyed after her murder but he only got 30 years. I never understood how Packau (sorry if spelt wrong, but he isn't worth 30 seconds of my time to google his name) didn't get a full life term, as he will still be a danger when released.
