Ltr that day Williams searched 'binoculars from Argos' on phone. Jury shown CCTV of her buying them from PC World in Bury

[h=3]Williams near Sadie Hartley’s workplace for two hours[/h]The jury heard how the next day Ian travelled to Switzerland.
Sarah Williams was in Knutsford, very close to Sadie Hartley’s place of work Hartley Taylor Medical Communications - a ‘successful company dealing with the management of medical conferences’.
Mr McDermott said: “What business Sarah Williams had in Knutsford is unclear - but you can be certain it wasn’t a friendly visit. Not only her phone but the tracker gave her away again.
“Significantly, she was there for two hours in that afternoon.”

[h=3]Text message[/h]Not long after Sarah Williams sent a text to Katrina Walsh.
It said ‘What are you doing work-wise tomorrow.’
Katrina Walsh gave riding lessons at a stables in Cheshire and replied ‘Just one client 3.30-4pm at Sandycroft. Anything in mind?’

[h=3]Williams caught on CCTV looking at binoculars[/h]Mr McDermott said Williams within minutes of the text was looking at Google on her mobile phone at ‘binoculars’ from Argos.
She was shortly after tracked to George Street in Bury where there is an Argos and PC World.
The jury heard how Sarah Williams ‘did having something in mind’ and was captured on CCTV entering PC World, talking to a sales rep, looking at some binoculars, trying them out and then buying them.

[h=3]Williams then tracked in Helmshore[/h]Mr McDermott asked the jury: “What did she have in mind? Ian Johnston was safely in Switzerland. Sadie Hartley was home alone when she wasn’t at work.
“Why buy binoculars? And where did she go immediately following this - 8 days from the murder? Straight to Helmshore and tracked directly to Sunnybank Road.
“We don’t know why she bought the binoculars but the prosecution say there was nothing good going on here.”

[h=3]CCTV of Williams driving on Sunnybank Road[/h]The jury is now being shown more CCTV of Sarah Williams driving up and down Sunnybank Road and then parking on the street.

Woman on CCTV was wearing trousers with reflector on. Prosecution say same trousers were found at Williams house.

Prosecution say phone belonging to Williams made a call to Chill Factor and Sadie's workplace on Jan 7.

Prosecutors say they don't know who was spoken to or purpose of calls

Prosecutors say the phone hadn't been used since August when it was used to text Walsh and her ex husband

The prosecution said the calls were made from Williams street in Chester proving it was her who made them

[h=3]The mobile phone is used again[/h]The next day on January 7 a phone call was made to the Chill Factore where Sarah Williams worked and then 3pm the same day a call as made to Sadie Hartley’s workplace in Knutsford.
Mr McDermott said: “So the same phone that was used to attempt to recruit Kevin Walsh was commissioned again on January 7. It had not been active since the failed attempt in August 2015 to recruit Kevin Walsh to her cause.”

Jury shown footage of what they say is Williams car on 'sinister recon' mission to drop off flowers and identify Sadie

CCTV shows two figures getting out of car. One at front prosecution say is Williams and at back is Walsh wearing cap

[h=3]Prosecution: Defendants bought flowers and went to Sadie Hartley's house[/h]About 8.30pm that night the ‘most sinister of the reconnaissance missions began’, Mr McDermott tells the court.
He said both defendants drove to Helmshore in the Volvo and then went to a local Tesco to buy cheap flowers before going to Sadie’s home on Sunnybank Road.
He said Katrina then rang her door bell as Williams - who was known by sight to Sadie Hartley - hid ‘perhaps behind a bush’.

[h=3]Jury show CCTV[/h]The jury are now being shown CCTV of two women walking along Sunnybank Road, one taller than the other and one wearing a cap, which the prosecution claim is Sarah Williams and Katrina Walsh.

Hi Alyce - They have both been charged with murder I thought. Must look it up, but I thought that charge considers her as guilty of the act?

Accessory to murder hasn't been mentioned has it? I've much to learn re law.

Yes, you are right , I had forgotten that they are both charged with murder. I wonder how that will work. Obviously Walsh was totally complicit in the plot but I suppose her barrister will argue that she was not present on the night and did not carry out the actual killing. I would hope she gets an equal sentence but not sure if she will. I will have to go and have a read up later re sentences

I wonder if Sadie was suspicious about receiving flowers.

Have to say, I would have been, particularly if they were as per the description - cheap flowers - and to be delivered so late at night.

I wonder what excuse they used.

[h=3]Flowers delivered ‘as casual as you would like’[/h]More CCTV is now being shown of two woman later on Sunnybank Road with one of them holding the flowers downwards.
Mr McDermott said once they deliver the flowers they walk off ‘as casual as you would like’.
He told the jury that they then go round the corner to where the Volvo was parked. The time is now just after 8.30pm.

[h=3]‘Distinctive zip’[/h]Mr McDermott said they then go to a local pub called The Holden Arms and the Volvo is seen arriving on CCTV.
CCTV is now being shown from the inside of the pub.
Mr McDermott said one of the women is Sarah Williams with a ‘distinctive zip’ on her trousers. He said these matched the ones later found at her home on Treborth Road.

Prosecution say Walsh dropped off flowers and scuffled away. Two defendants then said to have gone into Holden Arms

Sadie text Ian 'a woman has just this minute turned up with a bunch of chrysanthemums but didn't know who they are from'

Sadie 'she knew my name. That is a bit worrying when I'm on my own. No label or anything on them and late at night'

https://twitter.com/AbanQuaynorLT?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw

[h=3]'She knew my name. That’s a bit worrying ...'[/h]The jury heard how Sadie then texted Ian Johnston in Switzerland about the ‘bewildering and unheralded visit’.
Sadie wrote: “A woman just this minute turned up at the door with a bunch of chrysanthemums but didn’t know who they are from? 🤬🤬🤬”
Mr Johnston then replied that it wasn’t him before Sadie said: “She knew my name. That’s a bit worrying when I’m here on my own... No label or anything on them and late at night! XXXX”

They really sound quite stupid and desperate. Leaving trails everywhere and causing suspicion like that.

[h=3]Williams' visits to Sunnybank Road[/h]Mr McDermott said this was Sarah Williams’ fifth journey to Sunnybank Road in five weeks, however there was ‘still one more yet to come’.
He said they ‘thought they were planning the perfect murder but it was far from it’.

Worried Sadie's email about flower deliverySadie Hartley sent an email to her work partner the day after the flowers were delivered. It said:“Had a knock on the door just after 9 last night (thought twice about opening it but did). It was a woman with a bunch of chrysanthemums in her hand - the sort you’d pick up at a garage for a couple of quid - and said ‘Mrs Hartley these are for you’.“But when I asked who they were from she said she’d forgotten the name and then disappeared down the drive.“No label or anything on them - bit creepy really. Not from Ian of course but no idea who would do something like that.“Needless to say had a bad night sleep last night as a result!”
